An extended family is described in which four sisters and half sisters presented with ectrodactyly. Two of the sisters had associated agenesis of the tibiae. The paper describes the malformations and discusses the management and possible genetic inheritance involved. An autosomal recessive gene seems likely to be the mode of inheritance.
The combination of ectrodactyly, ectodermal dysplasia, and cleft lip with or without cleft palate (EEC syndrome) is a rare type of congenital anomaly. It usually occurs as an autosomal-dominant trait or less commonly in a sporadic form. In this complex, multiple congenital anomaly syndrome, any of the three cardinal manifestations may present with variable expressions.
Ectrodactyly of the feet has been reported only twice in association with trisomy 18 syndrome. A severe form of this anomaly, the first with published illustrative x rays, is described in a male infant with trisomy 18 syndrome. It is suggested that this may represent an extreme expression of the foot anomalies more commonly associated with this syndrome.
BACKGROUND Harstfield syndrome is the rare and unique association of holoprosencephaly (HPE) and ectrodactyly, with or without cleft lip and palate, and variable additional features. All the reported cases occurred sporadically. Although several causal genes of HPE and ectrodactyly have been identified, the genetic cause of Hartsfield syndrome remains unknown. We hypothesised that a single key ...
Congenital anomalies of the hand form an important class of congenital malformations. They have a huge functional importance because of the part played by the hand in the daily activities of a person. The deformities also have significant cosmetic significance and may also be associated with other anomalies. Amongst the congenital anomalies, central deficiency or cleft hand is relatively rare. ...
This document describes the design and construction of a mechanical device that allows subject with ectrodactyly to perform power grip. For this purpose, coupled bar mechanism for emulation finger is presented, system allows, from single movement, large diameter grip, considering variables obtained anthropometric goniometric measurement techniques. complemented by kinematic static analysis, in ...
An infant is reported with a complete form of the ectrodactyly-ectodermal dysplasia clefting (EEC) syndrome, inherited from his mother, who has a partial expression of the condition, without clefting. This observation stresses the phenotypic variability of the EEC syndrome, which in most cases is inherited as an autosomal dominant with reduced penetrance.
