The highly reduced graphene oxide using solvated electrons as reductive agents shows low defects and well dispersion that are vital as the support of Pt nanoparticles in direct methanol electro-oxidation. The electrochemical experiments demonstrate that the Pt/RGO composites not only greatly enhance the catalytic activity but also dramatically improve the durability of the catalyst.

Intermetallic Pt(3)Ti nanoparticles are solubilized in water by using a generation-five, hydroxyl-terminated, poly(amidoamine) dendrimer, G5OH, as a post-synthesis surfactant. Pt(3)Ti nanoparticles, encapsulated in G5OH and dispersed over the electrode surface, exhibited a superior catalytic activity toward the electro-reduction reaction of oxygen compared to as-prepared, highly agglomerated na...

A new approach for enhancing the electrochemical performance of carbon felt electrodes by employing non-precious metal oxides is designed. The outstanding electro-catalytic activity and mechanical stability of Mn(3)O(4) are advantageous in facilitating the redox reaction of vanadium ions, leading to efficient operation of a vanadium redox flow battery.

The complete electro-oxidation of glycerol to CO2 is performed through an oxidation cascade using a hybrid catalytic system combining a recombinant enzyme, oxalate decarboxylase from Bacillus subtilis, and an organic oxidation catalyst, 4-amino-TEMPO. This system is capable of electrochemically oxidizing glycerol at a carbon electrode collecting all 14 electrons per molecule.

Fabricating active materials into specific macrostructures is critical in the pursuit of high electro-catalytic activity. Herein we demonstrate that a three-dimensional (3D) architecture of NiFe layered double hydroxide (NiFe-LDH) significantly reduced the onset potential, yielded high current density at small overpotentials, and showed outstanding stability in electrochemical oxygen evolution ...

A strategy is proposed for immobilization of homogeneous catalysts whereby a glassy carbon electrode is functionalized by electro-grafting of a ligand, terpyridine. The modified electrode can easily be metallated with cobalt and shows activity towards catalytic proton and CO2 reduction. The metal can be removed and the electrode re-metallated at will.

Catalytic engines can use hydrogen peroxide as a chemical fuel in order to drive motion at the microscale. The chemo-mechanical actuation is a complex mechanism based on the interrelation between catalytic reactions and electro-hydrodynamics phenomena. We studied catalytic micropumps using fluorescence confocal microscopy to image the concentration of protons in the liquid. In addition, we meas...

Different compositions of Eu doped electrodes were prepared by a pyrolysis method in order to investigate the effect of Eu on the electro-catalytic behavior of Ti-based SnO(2)/Sb electrodes. The electrodes were characterized by SEM, EDS, XRD and their degradation abilities were evaluated using phenol. The electro-catalytic performance of prepared electrodes was strongly influenced by the heat-t...

Nanoporous gold (NPG) with bi-continuous ligaments and pores structure has promising potential in functional applications, among which one prominent example is fuel cell electrocatalyst. However, current application of NPG is mostly limited to methanol electro-oxidation due to its weak catalytic performance. Here we report a simple chemical dealloying process, for generating peculiar three-dime...
