A method is described for the isolation of nuclei and nucleoli from ungerminated pea embryos. Electron micrographs of the nucleolar preparation indicate a high degree of purity but only a partial preservation of composition, because of a loss of material from the nucleoli which occurs during the isolation procedure.
As the number of cancer survivors continues to increase, oncologists are faced with the challenge of providing cancer therapy to patients who may 1 day want to have children. Yet, gonadotoxic cancer treatments can compromise future fertility, either temporarily or permanently. There are established means of preserving fertility before cancer treatment; specifically, sperm cryopreservation for m...
Pseudomyxoma peritonei is a rare, chronic relapsing disease in which tumor cells in the abdomen produce excessive mucin with a significant mortality rate. We describe a young unmarried nulligrava who underwent fertility preservation by in vitro fertilisation and embryo cryopreservation prior to radical surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy. Pregnancy was achieved, although complicated by obstructiv...
126 abstract: in this research we studied the effects of cyclic hydration and dehydration of cysts of artemia urmiana and artemia parthenogenetica on the hatching percentage, survival and growth. the experiment was carried out in 3 treatments (1-3 hydration/dehydration cycles) with 3 replicates for each treatment. later effects of cold preservation at -20°c during three time periods were ...
The aim of this review is to present an overview of available methods for preservation of ovarian function and fertility in female cancer patients who desire to maintain their child-bearing capacity for future pregnancies. A Medline search was conducted. Published articles from American and European studies from 1976 to present were reviewed. The effect of cancer treatment on the ovary, as well...
Ovarian stimulation followed by oocyte aspiration has facilitated a number of cryopreservation techniques. Embryo cryopreservation has become a well-established and highly endorsed form of fertility preservation in young female cancer patients (American Society for Reproductive Medicine, American Society of Clinical Oncology, European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology, British Fertil...
In the last 10-20 years, new biotechnologies have been developed that are on the verge of revolutionizing reproductive processes in humans and animals. In agriculture, modern techniques in assisted reproductive technology (ART) are being used for the introduction, improvement, and preservation of livestock genetics and the enhancement of animal reproductive efficiency. Modern embryology and ART...
A total of 41 questionnaires were returned from 64 respondents who consented to receive a questionnaire through the mail. Almost all valued the opportunity to receive consultation to address their fertility concerns and discuss fertility preservation options. Psychological stress, time pressure, and costs were identified as main factors affecting respondents' decision to proceed with in-vitro f...
We read with great interest the paper by Kim et al. [1] on technologies for fertility preservation. It is a comprehensive overview on current and future options for safeguarding the possibility of future motherhood of young patients suffering from cancer. However, as gynecologists and obstetricians dealing with oncological patients, we’d like to focus on a neglected but crucial aspect of fertil...
