Submucosal chromoendoscopy involves the injection of a solution containing a vital stain, usually indigo carmine, into the intestinal wall submucosal layer. This allows to: Better delimit and characterize the various epithelia present (colonic mucosa, adenoma, hyperplastic polyp, serrated polyp, small bowel mucosa); expose and delimit lesion implantation areas; cooperate in the lifting of resec...

The diagnosis of ECL-omas is easy to perform. In patients with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (ZES), ECL-omas are almost always observed in the setting of multiple endocrine neoplasia type I. In patients without ZES, the first step is to discard non-gastrin-related sporadic ECL-omas whose prognosis is poor. By contrast, prognosis of ECL-omas in patients with ZES or chronic atrophic gastritis is goo...

Four cases of alimentary tract lipomas are described. While conventional radiology is unable to differentiate these tumours from the much commoner carcinomas, computed tomography and endoscopic examination may allow a definitive diagnosis thus sparing the patient major surgery. In selected cases endoscopic polypectomy is feasible and safe.

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIM Narrowband imaging (NBI) is an enhanced endoscopic optical technique which filters white light and accentuates imaging of the mucosal vasculature. Potential clinical applications of NBI include endoscopic inspection of Barrett's esophagus and endoscopic diagnosis of colorectal polyps. The degree to which NBI use has been adopted into clinical practice is unknown. The st...

Although gastric polyp is usually an incidental endoscopic finding, large-sized polyps can cause symptoms ranging from epigastralgia to bleeding from ulcerated polyps and gastric outlet obstruction. Although the gold standard of treatment is removal of the polyp either through endoscopic polypectomy or surgical excision, complications associated with these procedures cannot be ignored. The risk...

BACKGROUND We evaluated first the feasibility of endoscopic small-bowel polypectomy and second, the economic aspects, by comparing the cost of endoscopic and surgical polyp resection. METHODS A prospective, observational, multicenter study included 494 patients with positive capsule endoscopy (CE) before double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE). We selected only CE with at least one polyp. The retros...
