Fourteen out of 16 carbapenem-resistant quinolone-susceptible Enterobacter cloacae isolates were found to carry qnrB2 and bla(KPC-2) genes encoded on the same plasmid. One isolate also carried the aac(6')-Ib-cr gene. Coexistence of quinolone resistance determinants and bla(KPC-2) on the same plasmid in quinolone-susceptible E. cloacae isolates may have important clinical implications.

Nosocomial infections are frequent complications of hospitalization, caused by opportunistic pathogens that gain access to hosts undergoing invasive procedures, such as surgery, intubation, and placement of deep vein lines. Nosocomial infections in animal hospitals can infect other animals, as well as be transmitted to human personnel. Enterobacter is a genus of common gram-negative bacteria, w...

Enterobacter cloacae strain JD6301 was isolated from a mixed culture with wastewater collected from a municipal treatment facility and oleaginous microorganisms. A draft genome sequence of this organism indicates that it has a genome size of 4,772,910 bp, an average G+C content of 53%, and 4,509 protein-coding genes.

In the present study, a collection of 29 Gram-negative bacteria selected from organic foods according to antibiotics and biocide resistance were screened for multidrug efflux pumps and specific antibiotic resistance genes. The acrB pump gene of the AcrABeTolC system was detected in all isolates. EfrAB determinants efrA and efrB were frequently detected (Enterobacter, Pantoea, Salmonella), while...

Enterobacter cloacae strains CAPREx E7 and CAPREx E2-2 were isolated from Ghanaian yams at a London market. The draft genome sequences indicate that the two strains are similar, with genomes of 5,042,838 and 5,039,930 bp and 56.19% and 55.05% G+C content, respectively. Both strains encoded three different β-lactamases, including one of the AmpC family.

Serotyping based on surface polysaccharide antigens is important for the clinical detection and epidemiological surveillance of pathogens. Polysaccharide gene clusters (PSgcs) are typically responsible for the diversity of bacterial surface polysaccharides. Through whole-genome sequencing and analysis, eight putative PSgc types were identified in 23 Enterobacter aerogenes strains from several g...

Six hundred samples, 300 each of mutton and beef were collected under aseptic conditions from meat shops of Rawalpindi/Islamabad. They were examined bacteriologically under aerobic and anaerobic conditions at different temperatures for varying periods of time. Different species of bacteria isolated were Escherichia coli (520), Staphylococcus aureus (437), Staphylococcus epiderimis (200), Strept...
