Cutting random recursive trees, and the Bolthausen–Sznitman coalescent Christina Goldschmidt, University of Warwick (joint work with James Martin) The Bolthausen–Sznitman coalescent was introduced in the context of spin glasses in [1]. These days, it is usually thought of as a special case of a more general class of coalescent processes introduced by Pitman [5] and Sagitov [7] and usually refer...

Let Ω be a Borel subset of S N where S is countable. A measure is called exchangeable on Ω, if it is supported on Ω and is invariant under every Borel automorphism of Ω which permutes at most finitely many coordinates. De-Finetti's theorem characterizes these measures when Ω = S N. We apply the ergodic theory of equivalence relations to study the case Ω = S N , and obtain versions of this theor...

We characterize the class of exchangeable feature allocations assigning probability Vn,k ∏k l=1WmlUn−ml to a feature allocation of n individuals, displaying k features with counts (m1, . . . ,mk) for these features. Each element of this class is parametrized by a countable matrix V and two sequences U and W of non-negative weights. Moreover, a consistency condition is imposed to guarantee that ...

abstract low molecular weight carboxylic acids (lmw) play an important role in improving the bioavailability of soil nutrients. nonexchangeable soil k, trapped between the interlayers of clay minerals, is an important source of k for plants in many soils. the objectives of this study were to determine the effect of selected lmw organic acids on the release of k from micaceous minerals and to in...

Problem 1.5.7 from Pitman’s Saint-Flour lecture notes [11]: Does there exist for each n a fragmentation process (Πn,k, 1 ≤ k ≤ n) such that Πn,k is distributed like the partition generated by cycles of a uniform random permutation of {1, 2, . . . , n} conditioned to have k cycles? We show that the answer is yes. We also give a partial extension to general exchangeable Gibbs partitions.

Smectite clays demonstrate high affinities for nitroaromatics that strongly depend on the exchangeable cation. The K-smectites have high affinities for nitroaromatics, but Ca-smectites do not. Here we evaluate the ability of K-smectite to attenuate the bioavailability and hence toxicity of 2,4-dinitrotoluene (2,4-DNT) to the aquatic plant duckweed. In the absence of K-smectite, 2,4-DNT was high...

Brebes Regency, Central Java, is one of Indonesia's most important shallot production center implementing intensive agriculture. In the bulb production, K needed more than other nutrients. This study aimed to assess and describe adsorption characteristics on soils farming system in District, Java. Soil samples were collected at several locations areas Java Province. The observed soil properties...

Sorption of carbaryl (1-naphthyl-N-methyl-carbamate) from aqueous suspension to smectite was studied using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) (for batch sorption), and quantum chemical methods. The amount of carbaryl sorbed was strongly dependent on the surface-charge density of the smectite with more sorption occurring on the two "low" surface-char...

Although the bulk of plant biomass contains relatively light, atmospherically derived elements (C, H, O, N, and S), 5–10% of biomass is composed of heavier elements from soil minerals, such as Ca, Mg, K, and P. Plant uptake and cycling transport these heavier elements to the soil surface, resulting in shallower vertical distributions for strongly cycled elements than for other elements. In this...
