This article provides instructors with guidelines for teaching simple experimental design for the comparison of two treatment groups. Two designs with specific examples are discussed along with common misconceptions that undergraduate students typically bring to the experiment design process. Features of experiment design that maximize power and minimize the effects of interindividual variation...
Inventory management requires optimal determination of (a) “when to order”, and (b) “how much to order”. One also needs here two answers—what should be stocked initially, and should one adjust (a) and (b) as time progresses? This paper uses the Bayesian approach to answer these. It uses the classical (s, Q) model and a heuristic search in the unstructured decision space. It finds that one can m...
Although conventional tests are often used for determining a student’s overall competence, they are seldom used for determining a finegrained model. However, this problem does arise occasionally, such as when a conventional test is used to initialize the student model of an ITS. Existing psychometric techniques for solving this problem are intractable. Straightforward Bayesian techniques are al...
We introduce best response dynamics for settings where agents' preferences are diverse. Under these dynamics, which are defined on the space of Bayesian strategies, rest points and Bayesian Nash equilibria are identical. We prove the existence and uniqueness of solution trajectories to these dynamics, and provide methods of analyzing the dynamics based on aggregation. JEL Classification: C72, C73
This technical note deals with a priori estimation of efficiency of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) designs. The efficiency of an estimator is a measure of how reliable it is and depends on error variance (the variance not modeled by explanatory variables in the design matrix) and the design variance (a function of the explanatory variables and the contrast tested). Changes in the ...
Nearly every theory of causal induction assumes that the existence and strength of causal relations needs to be inferred from observational data in the form of covariations. The last few decades have seen much controversy over exactly how covariations license causal conjectures. One consequence of this debate is that causal induction research has taken for granted that covariation information i...
the ultrasound assisted emulsification microextraction (usaeme) method followed byinductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (icp-aes) was used for preconcentration anddetermination of bismuth (bi), indium (in) and lead (pb) in the plant azolla filiculoides lam. calix [4] pyrrole was used as a chelating agent and tetrachloroethylene was selected as extraction solvent. the main para...
enhanced oil recovery using nitrogen injection is a commonly applied method for pressuremaintenance in conventional reservoirs. numerical simulations can be practiced for the prediction ofa reservoir performance in the course of injection process; however, a detailed simulation might takeup enormous computer processing time. in such cases, a simple statistical model may be a goodapproach to the...
nanostructured ruo2 powders were synthesized via a hydrothermal method at 180 °c for 12 h using 1 and 2 m naoh aqueous solutions. the structure of the obtained nanomaterials was investigated by powder x-ray diffraction (pxrd) technique. the morphology the obtained materials were studied by field emission scanning electron microscope (fesem). the technique showed that with changing the reaction ...
