We examine the eeect of the excluded volume interactions on the density proole and other related physical quantities as a classical version of the Pauli exclusion principle. We rst introduce a lattice model of random walk of classical particles where the Pauli's exclusion principle operates in real space and show that it reproduces exactly the Fermi-Dirac distribution and satisses the relation ...

We develop a tight-binding model description of semi-Dirac electronic spectra, with highly anisotropic dispersion around point Fermi surfaces, recently discovered in electronic structure calculations of VO2-TiO2 nanoheterostructures. We contrast their spectral properties with the well-known Dirac points on the honeycomb lattice relevant to graphene layers and the spectra of bands touching each ...

Starting with free massless scalar and spinor fields described by a globally N = 1 supersymmetric action, infalling on a Schwarzschild black hole, the outgoing Hawking radiation is shown to break supersymmetry spontaneously, exactly as induced by a heat bath in Minkowski space, with no generation of Nambu-Goldstone fermions. Bose-fermi asymmetry appears to be intrinsic to the formulation of sin...

We report the direct measurement of the Dirac point, the Fermi level, and the work function of graphene by performing internal photoemission measurements on a graphene/SiO(2)/Si structure with a unique optical-cavity enhanced test structure. A complete electronic band alignment at the graphene/SiO(2)/Si interfaces is accurately established. The observation of enhanced photoemission from a one-a...

1-dimensional hamiltonian with ionization energy (ξ) is shown to be exactly the same with the total energy from the standard harmonic oscillator hamiltonian, with the harmonic oscillator potential, mωx/2. Commutation relations for the ladder operators, energy at the n state and the expectation value for the potential are analyzed and shown to be consistent with the principle of ξ. We also deriv...

A non-abelian generalization of the usual formulas for bosonization of fermions in 1 + 1 dimensions is presented. Any fermi theory in 1 + 1 dimensions is equivalent to a local bose theory which manifestly possesses all the symmetries of the fermi theory. One of the most startling aspects of mathematical physics in 1 +1 dimensions is the existence of a (non-local) transformation from local fermi...

In a two-dimensional electron gas under a strong magnetic field, correlations generate emergent excitations distinct from electrons. It has been predicted that "composite fermions"--bound states of an electron with two magnetic flux quanta--can experience zero net magnetic field and form a Fermi sea. Using infinite-cylinder density matrix renormalization group numerical simulations, we verify t...

We report quasi-two-dimensional Dirac fermions and quantum magnetoresistance in LaAgBi2. The band structure shows several narrow bands with nearly linear energy dispersion and Diraccone-like points at the Fermi level. The quantum oscillation experiments revealed one quasi-twodimensional Fermi pocket and another complex pocket with small cyclotron resonant mass. The in-plane transverse magnetore...

Ultrafast dynamics of Dirac fermions near the Fermi surface in monolayer and multilayer graphene are revealed using optical pump mid-infrared probe spectroscopy. The energy loss rate of Dirac fermions is also determined via energy-resolved transient transmissivity spectra, which is significantly suppressed as the number of layers in graphene increases.
