Numerical grid adaptation method for finite volume methods is presented. Unlike traditional adaptation methods, the method presented moves vertices of control volumes instead of their centers. To perform such movement, geometric information is used generated for the control volume method. The presented method can be used for twoand three-dimensional grids of arbitrary structure. Possibilities a...

We show that all closed flat n-manifolds are diffeomorphic to a cusp cross-section in a finite volume hyperbolic n + 1-orbifold.

Any non compact finite volume hyperbolic 3-manifold has a finite cover which admits a nondegenerate ideal triangulation. As an application, we show that the volume of those manifolds is always a critical value of a function defined from the Lobachevskii function.

We prove the Farrell-Jones Isomorphism Conjecture for groups acting on complete hyperbolic manifolds with finite volume orbit space. We then apply this result to show that for any Bianchi group Γ, Wh(Γ), K̃0(ZΓ), and Ki(ZΓ) vanish for i ≤ −1.

A cell-vertex finite volume approximation of elliptic convectiondominated diffusion equations is considered in two dimensions. The scheme is shown to be stable and second-order convergent in a mesh-dependent L2-norm.

We prove the Coleman’s conjecture on the equivalence between the massless Sine-Gordon model with finite volume interaction and the Thirring model with a finite volume mass term.

It is not known whether every noncompact hyperbolic 3-manifold of finite volume admits a decomposition into ideal tetrahedra. We give a partial solution to this problem: Let M be a hyperbolic 3-manifold obtained by identifying the faces of n convex ideal polyhedra P1, . . . , Pn. If the faces of P1, . . . , Pn−1 are glued to Pn, then M can be decomposed into ideal tetrahedra by subdividing the ...

This paper presents a physically based method for simulating the heat transfers between the different environmental elements to synthesize realistic winter sceneries. We simulate the snow fall over the ground, as well as the conductive, convective and radiative thermal transfers using a finite volume method according to the variations of air and dew point temperatures, the amount of snow, cloud...
