feeding habits of caspian marine shad alosa braschnikowii (borodin, 1904), inhabiting in the western part of caspian sea such as prey spectrum and seasonal dynamics have been studied. as in other parts of caspian sea, throughout the year, the main hunt of caspian marine shad constituted kilkas, gobies and shrimps while other groups of zoobenthos were represented in a lesser extent. importance o...
Testicular histology of mature grass goby (Zosterisessor ophiocephalus) collected in Bizerta lagoon showed several types of histological lesions. A high prevalence of these lesions was detected in stations influenced by discharges of industrial and/or urban activities. These results highlight the reproductive disturbance of gobies from Bizerta lagoon.
Tropical deep reefs (~40–300 m) are diverse ecosystems that serve as habitats for communities of reef-associated fishes. Deep-reef fish taxonomically and ecologically distinct from those on shallow reefs, but like they home to a species-rich assemblage small, cryptobenthic reef fishes, including many species the family Gobiidae (gobies). Here we describe two new deep-reef gobies, Varicus promet...
Myxozoan spores were observed in yellowfin goby Acanthogobius flavimanus collected from Suisun Marsh, San Francisco Estuary (SFE). Although histopathological changes associated with the parasite were not observed, the spores formed plasmodia that partially blocked the gastric and intestinal mucosa and gut lumen and may affect the perfomance and survival of the yellowfin goby. Morphological feat...
Juveniles from three species of Hawaiian gobiid fishes climb waterfalls as part of an amphidromous life cycle, allowing them to re-penetrate adult upstream habitats after being swept out to the ocean upon hatching. The importance of climbing for juvenile stream gobies is well established, but adult fishes in upstream island habitats also face potential downstream displacement by catastrophic di...
Index words: Gobiidae Invasive species Neogobius Proterorhinus Round Goby Tubenose Goby The species identities, scientific names, and relationships of Eurasian gobies that invaded the Laurentian Great Lakes – and other species that are predicted to invade in the future – are evaluated here using recently resolved DNA characters. The Round Goby and the Freshwater Tubenose Goby entered the Great ...
In today's marine habitats, anthropogenic noise is widespread in space and time, affecting aquatic animal communities. Short-term exposure to known affect vital behaviours, such as the ability evade predators. However, long-term pollution may lead differences short-term responses between naïve experienced animals. We investigated interaction sound on antipredator response of free-ranging sand g...
Spatial environmental heterogeneity in the Yangtze River Estuary (YRE) is always mentioned but rarely quantified and included evaluation process. This study introduced habitat suitability index model based on Gini (HSIgini) to evaluate optimal ranges of suitable factors for three typical estuarine gobies, i.e., Rhinogobius giurinus, Acentrogobius pflaumii, Odontamblyopus rubicundus, their quali...
Since the invasion of round gobies (Neogobius melanostomus) to Lake Michigan, they have become integrated into both nearshore and offshore food webs. Round can be found in relatively shallow water (<20 m) during summer, but nearly disappear from these depths early fall. They been collected, occasionally, greater than 70 m warm seasons. These observations other anecdotal evidence suggest that mi...
