Eastern oysters, Crassostrea virginica, Northern hard clams, Mercenaria mercenaria, soft-shell clams, Mya arenaria, and bay scallops, Argopeclen irradians are routinely cultured in shellfish hatcheries throughout the northeastern United States for private sale, public stock enhancement and management programs. The culture process involves spawning adults, rearing the resultant larvae in large t...
We report here the genome sequences of three Flavobacterium psychrophilum strains causing a bacterial coldwater disease (BCWD) outbreak, isolated from infected rainbow trout from hatcheries in Montana and South Dakota. The availability of these virulent outbreak-causing strain genome sequences will help further understand the pathogenesis of BCWD.

Various methods have been developed to mitigate the adverse effects of the Federal Columbia River Power System on juvenile Pacific salmon out-migrating through the Columbia River basin. In this study, we found that hatchery-reared spring Chinook salmon Oncorhynchus tshawytscha in the river are in varying degrees of health, which may affect delayed mortality and the assessment of the effectivene...
Vibrio tubiashii subsp. europaeus is a bivalve pathogen isolated during episodes of mortality affecting larval cultures in different shellfish hatcheries. Here, we announce the draft genome sequence of the type strain PP-638 and describe potential virulence factors, which may provide insight into the mechanism of pathogenicity.

Vibrio tubiashii has been linked to disease outbreaks in molluscan species, including oysters, geoducks, and clams. In particular, oyster hatcheries in the Pacific Northwest have been plagued by intermittent vibriosis since 2006. Accurate detection of vibrios, including V. tubiashii, is critical to the hatcheries in order to allow for rapid remediation efforts. The current methods for detection...
Microorganisms contamination in hatcheries has serious impacts on the quality and growth performance of ostrich. This study was conducted to examine the bacterial contamination of an ostrich hatchery environment and hatching eggs. Additionally, the inhibitory effects of some commercial disinfectants on microbial contamination on hatchery floor were also investigated. Our results indicated that,...
