The status of CMS jet simulations and physics analysis in heavy ion collisions is presented. Jet reconstruction and high-pT particle tracking in the high multiplicity environment of heavy ion collisions at the LHC using the CMS calorimetry and tracking system are described. The Monte Carlo tools used to simulate jet quenching are discussed.
Apparently universal trends have been observed in relativistic nucleusnucleus collisions up to RHIC energies. Here, we review these trends and we discuss their agnostic extrapolation to heavy ion collisions at the LHC. PACS numbers: 12.38.Mh, 25.75.Nq Invited topical review for J. Phys. G: Nucl. Part. Phys. Predictions for the LHC heavy ion programme 2
Using a fully self-consistent quantum statistical model, we demonstrate the possibility of Bose condensation of nuclei in heavy ion collisions. The most favorable conditions of high densities and low temperatures are usually associated with astrophysical processes and may be difficult to achieve in heavy ion collisions. Nonetheless, some suggestions for the possible experimental verification ...
We compute three particle correlations in the Glasma flux tube model of high energy heavy ion collisions. We obtain a simple geometrical picture of these correlations; when convoluted with final state radial flow, it results in distinct predictions for the near side three particle correlation in central heavy ion collisions.
We study the spectrum of the bremsstrahlung photons coming from the electrons and positrons, which are produced in the strong electromagnetic fields present in peripheral relativistic heavy ion collisions. We compare different approaches, making use of the exact pair production cross section in heavy ion collisions as well as the double equivalent photon approximation. 25.75.-q,13.40.-f Typeset...
There are interesting parallels between the physics of heavy ion collisions and cosmology. Both systems are out-ofequilibrium and relativistic fluid dynamics plays an important role for their theoretical description. From a comparison one can draw interesting conclusions for both sides. For heavy ion physics it could be rewarding to attempt a theoretical description of fluid perturbations simil...
We discuss the question of equilibriation in heavy ion collisions and how it can be addressed in experiment
MODELING RELATIVISTIC HEAVY ION COLLISIONS
We extend the statistical reaction with memory approach to study off-diagonal spin and parity S-matrix energy autocorrelation in dissipative heavy-ion collisions. It is suggested that S-matrix spin and parity decoherence results in (i) damping of the coherent nuclear rotation and (ii) is a manifestation of quantum chaos in dissipative heavy-ion collisions.
Charmonium production from the hadron gas formed in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions is studied. Using the J/ψ-hadron absorption cross section determined from the nonperturbative quark-exchange model, which has a peak value similar to that used in the comover model for J/ψ suppression and a thermally averaged value consistent from that extracted from J/ψ data in heavy-ion collisions, we ...
