hepatitis delta virus (hdv) infection results in more severe and even fulminant form of hepatitis b in co-infected cases. this study was designed to estimate the prevalence of anti-hdv positivity and the associated risk factors in patients with chronic hepatitis b virus infection in zahedan (iran). in this cross-sectional study a total of 440 consecutive patients with chronic hepatitis b virus ...

Hepatitis D virus (HDV) is an RNA virus that can cause hepatitis. Development and approval of new vaccines are the hope for control of the possible emerging pandemic of this infection. Recently, the possible epitope as 174 to 195 of HDAg was mentioned. Here, the author reports the preliminary data from the computational analysis to find binding affinity of the candidate HDV epitope using new bi...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Several reports indicated a declining trend in the occurrence of hepatitis D virus (HDV) infection in some geographical areas. However, no study has been conducted in India to evaluate whether a similar epidemiological change is occurring in this part of the world. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the seroprevalence of HDV in patients with hepatitis B virus ...

Hepatitis viruses belong to different families and have in common a striking hepatotropism and restrictions for propagation in cell culture. The transmissibility of hepatitis is in great part limited to non-human primates. Enterically transmitted hepatitis viruses (hepatitis A virus and hepatitis E virus) can induce hepatitis in a number of Old World and New World monkey species, while the host...

Chronic delta hepatitis (CDH) represents a severe form of chronic viral hepatitis, induced by the hepatitis delta virus (HDV) in conjunction with the hepatitis B virus (HBV). Delta hepatitis may lead to disease in humans through co-infection. The former leads to acute hepatitis which clinically can range from mild hepatitis to fulminant hepatitis and death. Severe or fulminant hepatitis is more...

ONE hundred and fifty-eight cases of hepatitis B have been detected among Dublin drugabusers from January to August 1981 during an epidemic which originated in 1980 and still continues. The mean age was 21 years and the male/female susceptibility to hepatitis B was the same. An unusually high proportion (29%) of a sample of 50 tested had the hepatitis B associated delta antigen in their serum a...

The hepatitis delta virus (HDV) is a subviral agent that utilizes the envelope proteins of the hepatitis B virus (HBV) for cell to cell propagation. In infected human hepatocytes, the HDV RNA genome can replicate and associate with multiple copies of the delta protein to assemble a ribonucleoprotein (RNP). However the RNP cannot exit the cell because of the lack of an export system. This is pro...

Antibodies to the hepatitis delta virus (HDV) were found in 17.6% of 233 hepatitis B virus surface antigen-positive subjects in Cameroon. Phylogenetic analyses showed the presence of HDV-1, HDV-5, HDV-6, and HDV-7 genotypes. These results enrich the limited data on HDV prevalence and molecular diversity in Cameroon.
