INTRODUCTION Mastitis is a multifaceted disease with varied etiology, damaging the dairy economy, worldwide. Hence, the importance of timely diagnosis of this disease is represented well in saying, "A day lost is quarter lost"! Focus was to investigate the etioprevalence of sub clinical mastitis (SCM) in Holstein x Haryana crossbred cattle. The relationship between somatic cell count (SCC) and ...
bovine immunodeficiency virus is a lentivirus which can cause varieties of infectious complications and induce remarkable losses to dairy industry. considering to the probability of worldwide distribution of the biv infection, this study was conducted for the first time in iran to determine of the status of biv infection in the holstein cattle and evaluate the associated findings. according to ...
Bioinformatics Study of mtDNA Genes in Two Subspecies Holstein (Bos taurus) and Cholistani indicus) Cattle Using RNA-Seq Data
The insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-1) gene plays important roles in the growth and body composition of animals. Serum IGF1 concentration has been associated with growth traits in many livestock species. We found a polymorphism of cattle IGF1-TasI locus and analyzed the distribution of alleles in three cattle breeds, including Qinchuan, Nanyang, and Chinese Holstein. PCR-RFLP analysis showed ...
the pituitary-specific transcription factor (pit-1) gene is a candidate gene for growth, carcass and also for milk yield traits. in dairy farm animals, the main goal of the selection is the improvement of milk yield and composition. the genes of milk proteins and hormones are excellent candidate genes for linkage analysis with quantitative trait loci (qtl) because of their biological significan...
British breeds of cattle are not so effective as Zebu in extracting nutrients from low-quality roughages, and these breeds differ in their nutrient metabolism and animal physiology. Breeds of cattle may differ in their requirements for Mg. Brahman cows are less susceptible to death from disease and metabolic disorders than are British breeds of cattle, whereas cows with 50% or greater dairy bre...
Belgian Blue (BB) cattle are very sensitive to mange caused by Psoroptes ovis and, in contrast to the case in Holstein cattle, single treatments with ivermectin do not result in complete elimination of the parasite. The objective of the present study was to determine the concentration of ivermectin in plasma, skin and hair following subcutaneous administration to Holstein and BB calves and to a...
To identify strains of Mycobacterium bovis circulating in Iran, we used region of difference, spoligotypes, and variable number tandem repeats to genotype 132 M. bovis isolates from Holstein Friesian cattle. Despite wide geographic origins, the strains were genetically homogeneous. Increased distribution of cattle herds and inadequate control measures may have contributed to strain dispersion.
The Holstein Friesian and Chianina cattle breeds are representative of extreme selection for milk and meat traits, respectively, with significant changes in metabolism resulting from human selection over the past centuries. In the present study, we wanted to assess whether selection for different purposes has had a measurable effect on liver metabolism through a comparison of the protein and ge...
Mastitis is a costly disease of dairy cattle as it causes a loss in milk yield and milk quality in affected cows. Toll-like receptor (TLR) genes play a role in the host response to a variety of organisms including those inducing mastitis. In the present study, we investigated the polymorphism of TLR2, 4, 6 and 9 genes in Holstein cattle and ...
