In a tree-structured ZigBee wireless sensor network, nodes close to the root of the tree (i.e., hot-spot nodes) may exhaust their power earlier than those distant from the root due to heavy loads on packet forwarding. This hot-spot problem is inherent in tree-structured networks and may demand extra energy to recover from failures of hot-spot nodes. In this paper, the backbone-aware topology fo...

The bacteriophage encoded hyaluronate lyases (HylP and HylP2) degrade hyaluronan and other glycosaminoglycans. HylP2 forms a functional fibril under acidic conditions in which its N-terminus is proposed to form the fibrillar core, leading to nucleation and acceleration of fibril formation. Here we report the presence of a hot spot region (A144GVVVY149) towards the carboxy terminus of HylP2, ess...

Filling defects are often observed on 99mTc sulfur colloid liver scans. Hot spots are much less frequently seen. Superior vena cava syndrome is the most frequent cause of this finding. In this report 3 patients with S.V.C and budd - Chiari syndrome with HOT SPOT on liver scan are presented. Mechanisms of scintigraphic patterns are reviewed.

Pictor A is a nearby Fanaroff-Riley class II (FR II) radio galaxy with a bright hot spot, the western hot spot. Observation of high polarization in the optical emission of the hot spot indicates that the optical emission could be synchrotron radiation of relativistic electrons in the hot spot. These electrons may be able to produce high energy γ-ray photons through inverse Compton (IC) scatteri...

A real number α is said to be b-normal if every mlong string of digits appears in the base-b expansion of α with limiting frequency b−m. We prove that α is b-normal if and only if it possesses no base-b “hot spot.” In other words, α is b-normal if and only if there is no real number y such that smaller and smaller neighborhoods of y are visited by the successive shifts of the base-b expansion o...

The Canary archipelago comprises seven main volcanic islands and several islets that form a chain extending for ~ 500 km across the eastern Atlantic, between latitudes 27°N and 30°N, with its eastern edge only 100 km from the NW African coast (Figures 1 & 2). The Canary Islands developed in a geodynamic setting characterized by Jurassic oceanic lithosphere formed during the fi rst stage of open...

We present the first long-slit spectra of the Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 1068 obtained by the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS); the spectra cover the wavelength range 1150 – 10,270 Å at a spatial resolution of 0.05 – 0.1 and a spectral resolving power of λ/∆λ ≈ 1000. In this first paper, we concentrate on the far-UV to near-IR continuum emission from the continuum “hot spot” and surroundin...

We study the temperature structure of the central part (r ≤ 18≃ 0.7h 50 Mpc) of the Coma cluster of galaxies using ASCA data. Two different analysis methods produce results in good agreement with each other and reveal the presence of interesting structures in the gas temperature distribution. Globally, the average temperature in the center of the cluster is 9.0±0.6 keV in good agreement with pr...
