We show that a quantum dot in the fractional Hall regime exhibits mesoscopic magnetic oscillations with a period which is a multiple of the period for free electrons. Our calculations are performed for parabolic quantum dots with hard-core electron-electron interactions and are exact in the strong field limit for k B T smaller than the fractional Hall gap. Explicit expressions are given for the...

Motivated by recent experiments on molecular quantum dots we investigate the relaxation of pure spin states when coupled to metallic leads. Under suitable conditions these systems are well described by a ferromagnetic Kondo model. Using two recently developed theoretical approaches, the time-dependent numerical renormalization group and an extended flow equation method, we calculate the real-ti...

The effects of spin-orbit coupling on the two-electron spectra in lateral coupled quantum dots are investigated analytically and numerically. It is demonstrated that in the absence of magnetic field, the exchange interaction is practically unaffected by spin-orbit coupling, for any interdot coupling, boosting prospects for spin-based quantum computing. The anisotropic exchange appears at finite...

Wigner crystallization of electrons in 2D quantum dots is reported. It proceeds in two stages: (i) via radial ordering of electrons on shells and (ii) freezing of the intershell rotation. The phase boundary of the crystal is computed in the whole temperature-density plane, and the influences of quantum effects and the particle number are analyzed.

We compute the parametric correlation function of the conductance peaks in chaotic and weakly disordered quantum dots in the Coulomb blockade regime and demonstrate its universality upon an appropriate scaling of the parameter. For a symmetric dot we show that this correlation function is affected by breaking time-reversal symmetry but is independent of the details of the channels in the extern...

We calculate and model the microscopic dielectric response function for quantum dots using first principle methods. We find that the response is bulklike inside the quantum dots, and the reduction of the macroscopic dielectric constants is a surface effect. We present a model for the microscopic dielectric function which reproduces well the directly calculated results and can be used to solve t...

We study the impact of coherently generated lattice photons on an atomic Mott insulator subjected to a uniform force. Analogous to an array of tunnel-coupled and biased quantum dots, we observe sharp, interaction-shifted photon-assisted tunneling resonances corresponding to tunneling one and two lattice sites either with or against the force and resolve multiorbital shifts of these resonances. ...

We investigate the linear-response conductance through a pair of coupled quantum dots. The conductance spectrum under ideal conditions is shown to consist of two sets of twin peaks whose locations and amplitudes are determined by the interdot coupling and the intradot charging. We will show that the qualitative features of the spectrum survive against experimental nonidealities such as (1) detu...
