We study a quasistatic evolution problem for Cam-Clay plasticity under a special loading program which leads to spatially homogeneous solutions. Under some initial conditions, the solutions exhibit a softening behaviour and time discontinuities. The behavior of the solutions at the jump times is studied by a viscous approximation.

This paper is devoted to the error estimates for some weighted L projections. Nearly optimal estimates are obtained. These estimates can be applied to the analysis of the usual multigrid method, multilevel preconditioner and domain decomposition method for solving elliptic boundary problems whose coefficients have large jump discontinuities.

We consider phase transitions in solids due to heat propagating through crystalline materials at low temperatures. These are considered in a steady state context where, at the transition temperature, the specific heat becomes singular and the heat conductivity has a maximum. Several consequences are found for the heat capacity having finite or infinite jump discontinuities.

Front Tracking is the combination of two distinct computational traditions. Its purpose is to enable high quality, relatively coarse grid mesh solutions for problems complicated by the presence of fronts, interfaces, and other discontinuities, which may be of considerable geometric complexity. The rst of the two algorithmic ideas used in front tracking is upwind diierencing, for uids, materials...

We further study the properties of the back and forth error compensation and correction (BFECC) method for advection equations such as those related to the level set method and for solving Hamilton-Jacobi equations on unstructured meshes. In particular, we develop a new limiting strategy which requires another backward advection in time so that overshoots/undershoots on the new time level get e...

The observed electrical potentials of neurons as determined either by extracellular or intracellular recording are never constant. The same is true for grossly recorded field potentials and brain recordings such as the electroencephalogram. Often such recordings of potential exhibit quite sudden changes or jumps. If the sample paths of a continuous time random process have discontinuities then ...

We propose a data-driven model order reduction (MOR) technique for parametrized partial differential equations that exhibit parameter-dependent jump-discontinuities. Such problems have poor-approximability in linear space and therefore, are challenging standard MOR techniques. build upon the methodology of approximating map between parameter domain expansion coefficients reduced basis via regre...

While a substantial literature on structural break change point analysis exists for univariate time series, research large panel data models has not been as extensive. In this paper, novel method estimating with multiple changes is proposed. The breaks are allowed to occur at unknown points in and may affect the multivariate slope parameters individually. Our adapts Haar wavelets structure of o...

We consider the wavelet-based estimators of mean regression function with long memory infinite moving average errors and investigate their asymptotic rates of convergence of estimators based on thresholding of empirical wavelet coefficients. We show that these estimators achieve nearly optimal minimax convergence rates within a logarithmic term over a large class of non-smooth functions that in...
