The present study was undertaken to evaluate the genotoxic and oxidative stress modulatory effects of commercial formulation of glyphosate-based herbicide (Roundup(®)) in freshwater fish Channa punctatus. Three sublethal test concentrations of the herbicide viz., SL-I (1/10th of LC50=∼3.25mgL(-1)), SL-II (1/8th of LC50=∼4.07mgL(-1)) and SL-III (1/5th of LC50=∼6.51mgL(-1)) were calculated using ...

Three Plumbago spp have been tested for mosquito larvicidal activity. The crude extracts exhibiting the highest larvicidal activity against Anopheles gambiae were hexane (LC50 = 6.4 microg/mL) and chloroform (LC50 = 6.7 microg/mL) extracts from Plumbago zeylanica Linn, chloroform (LC50 = 6.7 ug/mL) extract from Plumbago stenophylla Bull and ethyl acetate (LC50 = 4.1 microg/mL) extract from Plum...

The aim of this research was to determine the chemical composition and nematicidal activity of essential oil of Agastache rugosa flowering aerial parts against the root knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita, and to isolate and identify any nematicidal constituents from the essential oil. The essential oil of A. rugosa aerial parts was obtained by hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC-FID and GC-M...

This study was designed to examine the nutritional composition, antioxidant activity and medium lethal concentration (LC50 value) of Tamarindus indica L. pulp and seed extracts in vitro. The extraction was set at 40◦C, 60◦C and 100◦C for 12 hours, 6 hours and 15 minutes respectively to determine the optimum extraction parameter whereas the anti-oxidant activity of the extracts was measured usin...

With the object of improving the effectiveness of a malignant melanoma's treatment and a patients' quality of life, there is a serious need to identify new anticancer compounds, for example, among naturally derived compounds such as sodium butyrate. The aim of this study was to assess the combined impact of carboplatin (C) and sodium butyrate on the B16 melanoma viability by in vitro. B16 cell ...

The European Plant Protection Products Regulation 1107/2009 requires that registrants establish whether pesticide metabolites pose a risk to the environment. Fish acute toxicity assessments may be carried out to this end. Considering the total number of pesticide (re-) registrations, the number of metabolites can be considerable, and therefore this testing could use many vertebrates. EFSA's rec...

A follow-up chemical investigation to methanol extract of Conyza dioscoridis (Family Asteraceae) led to the isolation of seven compounds (1-7). The isolated compounds identified as 2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)ethyl-2-O-[6-deoxy-α-Lmannopyranosyl-4-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-2-propenoate]-β-D-glucopyranoside (1), rutin (2), isoquercetin (3), E-caffeic acid (4), gallic acid (5), quercetin (6), β-Sitosterol...

The aim of the present study was to observe the effect of seasonal variations (abiotic factors) on the toxicity of carbaryl to L. acuminata. In each month during the year 2006-2007, the 24h LC50 values of the molluscicide carbaryl were determined in an out-door study with the snail Lymnaea acuminata, with concomitant estimation of levels of abiotic factors viz., temperature, pH, dissolved oxyge...

Cadmium is a known renal toxin. The cytotoxic effect of cadmium chloride (CdCl2) was evaluated on renal inner medullary collecting duct cells (mIMCD3). The 24 hr LC50 value for CdCl2 in mIMCD3 cells was 40 µM. The present study showed that mIMCD3 cells were sensitive to CdCl2 exposure.

PURPOSE To estimate the median lethal needle caliber (LC50) of a new experimental sepsis model and compare it to the LC50 of the cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) sepsis model. METHODS Male albino Wistar rats were studied (n=22). Animals were allocated into two study groups. In Group I, experimental sepsis was induced by cecal ligation and puncture. In Group II, experimental sepsis was induce...
