In this paper, a box approximation scheme is proposed using the lumped mass numerical integration technique on piecewise linear nite element spaces for a coupled nonlinear thermistor system. Existence and uniqueness of the proposed box approximation scheme are proved via a xed point theorem, and H 1-error analysis is presented.

A Galerkin-characteristics finite element scheme of lumped mass type is presented for the convection diffusion problems. Under the weakly acute triangulation hypothesis the scheme is proved to be unconditionally stable and convergent in the maximum-norm. Using freefem, we show 2D and 3D numerical examples, which reflect the robustness of the scheme and the theoretical convergence result.
