Severe benign lymphoid hyperplasia (LH) is unusual in the head and neck region, but the diagnosis of LH is of clinical importance as it may be confused with malignant lymphoma, both on clinical examination and pathologically. While the etiology is poorly understood, a number of previous theories exist, which are included here in the context of a literature review. In this paper we present a cas...
Nodular lymphoid hyperplasia of the upper small intestine was demonstrated in 25 patients with giardiasis. All had normal serum immunoglobulin levels and seven patients initially presented with clinical findings suggestive of an abdominal lymphoma. In only two, however, was the diagnosis of primary jejunal lymphoma confirmed. It is possible that an aetiological relationship exists between recur...
Acquired idiopathic hypogammaglobulinaemia can be associated with a sprue-like syndrome in about 20% of patients (Gitlin, Gross, and Janeway, 1959). Hermans, Huizenga, Hoffman, Brown, and Markowitz (1966) described the association of hypogammaglobulinaemia with nodular lymphoid hyperplasia of the small intestine, recurrent upper respiratory infections, the malabsorption syndrome with steatorrho...
The prime function of appendix in adults is the immune function. Inflammat ion of the appendix is known as appendicitis. Although its etiology is controversial, in the majority of patients, appendicitis is thought to be provoked by obstruction of the appendiceal lumen caused by fecalith impact ion, muscular incoordination, lymphoid hyperplasia, or other processes. For the present work 318 appen...
We describe a 70-year-old woman affected by diffuse pulmonary lymphoid hyperplasia (DPLH). DPLH is a rare clinical-pathological entity generally associated with connective tissue diseases, but we diagnosed our case as an idiopathic DPLH. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of idiopathic DPLH reported in medical literature.
A 4-year-old boy is sent to paediatric consultation for nightrecurring abdominal pain of 3 weeks duration. Clinical examination reveals a moderate pain to deep palpation of the right iliac fossa. The rest of the clinical examination is unremarkable. Ultrasound (US) shows a slightly swollen 7 mm transverse diameter appendix, electively sensitive. Swelling is the result of hypoechogenic submucosa...
(CVID) is the most frequent primary immunodeficiency, characterized by reduced levels of immunoglobulins [1,2]. Due to a heterogeneous presentation including a heightened rate of infections, the diagnosis is often delayed for 4–9 years. This delay may contribute to the increased morbidityandmortality in CVIDpatients [1,3]. Gastrointestinal manifestations – most often chronic diarrhea [2] – are ...

MATERIALS AND METHODS In this retrospective, interventional case series, a chart review was performed of three patients diagnosed with reactive lymphoid hyperplasia. Details of clinical presentation, ocular and systemic examination f...
The lymphoid organs of mice show definite changes after cancer inoculation. In immune mice there is a tendency towards a lymphoid hyperplasia, while in susceptible mice more or less marked depletion of the lymphoid tissue takes place. These changes are evident at the end of the 3rd week after cancer inoculation.
