PURPOSE At present, there is no available molecular marker that reliably detects the earliest stages of epithelial transformation in the majority of patients affected with incipient breast carcinoma. Here we introduce M34 protein, a mammalian actin filament regulatory protein, as a highly sensitive and easily detected positive cellular marker for both early and late stages of breast carcinoma. ...
in human breast cancer, estrogen receptor (er) status of the tumor has prognostic and therapeutic significance. however, facilities to study er are not widely available to us. we postulated that if there is a correlation between histologic grade and er status of invasive ductal carcinoma (idc), it may help predict the er status of the tumor. of 8 4 cases of breast carcinoma referred to the canc...
The stress-activated protein kinase (SAPK) p38 can induce apoptosis, and its inhibition facilitates mammary tumorigenesis. We found that during mammary acinar morphogenesis in MCF-10A cells grown in three-dimensional culture, detachment of luminal cells from the basement membrane stimulated mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) kinases 3 and 6 (MKK3/6) and p38α signaling to promote anoikis. p...
We performed immunohistochemical studies of epithelial keratins in intraductal carcinoma in situ (IDCIS) in mammary Paget's disease (MPD). K7, K8 and K18 were expressed in IDCIS in MPD. However, K19 was not expressed in IDCIS in MPD. Interestingly, K17 was expressed in some tumor cells in IDCIS. K17, a hyperproliferative keratin, may suggest ductal invasion and poor prognosis in MPD.

The mammary gland is a unique organ that continually undergoes postnatal developmental changes. In mice, the mammary gland is formed via signals from terminal end buds, which direct ductal growth and elongation. Intriguingly, it is likely that the entire cellular repertoire of the mammary gland is formed from a single antecedent cell. Furthermore, in order to produce progeny of varied lineages ...
The study was done over a period of 10 years, 1996-2005 and it included 562 mammary cancer patients. Of the 562 cases, 100 cases of invasive mammary carcinoma included in this study were investigated from an immunohistochemical point of view. The p53 overexpression was more frequently seen in patients under 50 (23 cases, that is 54.76%), compared to those over 50 years old (19 cases, that is 45...
Invasive ductal carcinoma NOS, or no special type, is the most common type of breast cancer representing 65% to 75% of mammary carcinomas (1,2). Depending on the size of the lesion, size of the breast, and proximity of the lesion to the skin, patients can present with a hard, fixed, palpable mass that may cause skin thickening and retraction (Fig. 8.1). If the cancer is in the subareolar area, ...
Abstract Background Due to the high variability of incidence and prevalence intra-mammary lymph nodes (IMLNs), they might be overlooked during clinical radiological examinations. Properly characterizing pathological IMLNs detecting factors that influence their in different stages breast cancer aid proper therapeutic decision-making could possible prognostic value. Methods Medical records were r...
Energy restriction (ER) has documented beneficial effects on numerous diseases including cancer, yet the mechanism(s) that accounts for these effects is unknown. Experiments were designed to determine the effect of ER: (i) on the growth and development of the mammary gland; (ii) on the growth of carcinomas induced in the mammary gland by treatment with 1-methyl-1-nitrosourea (MNU); (iii) on rat...
