A new micro T-tube, 0.6 mm in outer diameter, has been constructed. Use of this tube has allowed 1-mm common carotid artery (CCA) bypass ofr periods of time up to 22 minutes. After bypass, scanning electron microscopic observation of sutured CCA endothelium showed widespread destruction, scattered attached platelets and other formed blood elements, as well as microthrombi both at suture lines a...

Keratin micro-tubes were obtained by heating medullated keratin fibres to temperatures above 230°C under nitrogen atmosphere, when, as documented by microscopy, the cortex (the core of the fibre) melts from the medulla outwards, followed by pyrolysis of the material through the remaining solid cuticle (shell) layer. The resulted hollow tubes from fibres void of cortical material keep the extern...

Thin sheets can be assembled into origami tubes to create a variety of deployable, reconfigurable and mechanistically unique three-dimensional structures. We introduce and explore origami tubes with polygonal, translational symmetric cross-sections that can reconfigure into numerous geometries. The tubular structures satisfy the mathematical definitions for flat and rigid foldability, meaning t...

BACKGROUND AND AIMS An unusual form of pollen tube growth was observed for several Conospermum species (family Proteaceae). The rate of pollen tube growth, the number of tubes to emerge and the ultrastructure of these tubes are given here. METHODS Pollen was germinated in vitro in different sucrose concentrations and in the presence of calcium channel blockers, and tube emergence and growth w...

Repetitive contraction of cultured muscle tubes has been controlled in vitro with periodical electrical stimulation. C2C12 (Mouse myoblast cell line) was cultured with High-glucose Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle’s Medium on a dish to make muscle tubes. Differentiation was induced with horse serum. Repetitive contraction of the tube was generated by electric pulses through electrodes of platinum, and...

In the article technologies used in micro and nanoelectronics there are shortly described. Attention is devoted to lithography as a basic technology. Principles of electron and ion lithography are mentioned as well as progressive ion projection lithography. Some remarks to nanotubes as means of cold cathodes for vacuum electron tubes for nanoelectronics are presented.

Pollen tubes are used as a model in the study of plant morphogenesis, cellular differentiation, cell wall biochemistry, biomechanics, and intra- and intercellular signaling. For a "systems-understanding" of the bio-chemo-mechanics of tip-polarized growth in pollen tubes, the need for a versatile, experimental assay platform for quantitative data collection and analysis is critical. We introduce...
