Due to their abnormal appearance, Multiple Sclerosis lesions can influence the results of various image analysis techniques such as segmentation and registration. As the multi-modal characteristic intensity of the Multiple Sclerosis lesions is different that of non-pathological tissues, a local multi-modal intensity similarity can be used to classify and segment lesions. In this work, lesions a...

The present study utilizes an analytical method to formulate the three lowest modal frequencies of axially-loaded notched beam through both crack location and load level in a specific format that can be used in existing frequency-based crack-identification methods. The proposed formula provides a basis to shift into two states, one with axial loading and the other without any loading whatsoever...

In this paper, we consider the influence of trust on the assimilation of acquired information into an agent’s belief. By use of modal logic tools, we characterize the relationship among belief, information acquisition and trust both semantically and axiomatically. The belief and information acquisition are respectively represented by KD45 and KD normal modal operators, whereas trust is expresse...

The radar Doppler spectrum contains a wealth of information on cloud microphysical properties. Typically, radar-based cloud retrievals use only the zeroth or first moments of the Doppler spectrum – reflectivity and mean Doppler velocity – to derive quantities such as cloud water content and particle characteristic size (e.g., Liou and Sassen 1994; Matrosov et al. 2002). When using only the mome...

Suhrawardi’s logic of the Hikmat al-Ishraq is basically modal. So to understand his modal logic one first has to know the non-modal part upon which his modal logic is built. In my previous paper ‘Suhrawardi on Syllogisms’(3) I discussed the former in detail. The present paper is an exposition of his treatment of modal syllogisms. On the basis of some reasonable existential presuppositi...

In this research, the modal parameters of a beam in free-free condition are extracted by performing different experiments in laboratory. For this purpose, two different techniques are employed. The first methodology is considered as a time domain method in Operational Modal Analysis. While the other one is frequency domain impact hammer test which is categorized as an Experimental Modal Analysi...

We provide a purely syntactical treatment of simultaneous fixpoints in the modal μ-calculus by proving directly in Kozen’s axiomatisation their properties as greatest and least fixpoints, that is, the fixpoint axiom and the induction rule. Further, we apply our result in order to get a completeness result for characteristic formulae of finite pointed transition systems.

The work on prototypes in ontologies pioneered by Rosch [10] and elaborated by Lakoff [8] and Freund [3] is related to vagueness in the sense that the more remote an instance is from a prototype the fewer people agree that it is an example of that prototype. An intuitive example is the prototypical “mother”, and it is observed that more specific instances like ”single mother”, “adoptive mother”...

We propose a new zero-shot Event Detection method by Multi-modal Distributional Semantic embedding of videos. Our model embeds object and action concepts as well as other available modalities from videos into a distributional semantic space. To our knowledge, this is the first Zero-Shot event detection model that is built on top of distributional semantics and extends it in the following direct...

The literature on concurrency theory offers a wealth of examples of characteristic-formula constructions for various behavioural relations over finite labelled transition systems and Kripke structures that are defined in terms of fixed points of suitable functions. Such constructions and their proofs of correctness have been developed independently, but have a common underlying structure. This ...
