BACKGROUND Due to the advancement of prenatal and postnatal ultrasound screening in addition to better understanding by pediatricians, more infants have been detected to have vesicoureteal reflux. There are still debates, however, about their management whether to take conservative or surgical treatment. METHODS We analysed clinical courses of 51 children with primary reflux undergoing antire...

PURPOSE Prevalence of ureter and kidney duplication is roughly 1 per 125 people, and is associated with vesicoureteral reflux to lower pole in about 45% of cases. From antireflux surgical principles viewpoint, standard antireflux surgeries can be performed in these kidneys without releasing ureters from each other. We studied the results of Gil-Vernet antireflux surgery in 12 patients with dupl...

OBJECTIVE Over the past 20 years endoscopic treatment (ET) of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) has changed the algorithm of reflux management. We describe a modification of the standard subureteral injection (STING) that has contributed to the increased success rate of this procedure. METHODS Between January 2006 and December 2006 192 children, 5 months to 10 years old (mean age 2.8 years) underwe...

Renal scarring secondary to vesicourethral reflux is associated with an increased incidence of hypertension, which has been reported in up to 38% of children with reflux nephropathy. In this study the results of captopril test on 20 patients with reflux nephropathy(reflux+Scarring) were assessed within 8 months. For this purpose we studied the plasma renin activity and blood pressure r...

Hepatobiliary scintigraphy with 99mTc-HIDA offers a noninvasive method to detect duodenogastric reflux. Biliary reflux was graded using the persistence rather than the intensity of the radioactive refluxate: Grade 0 was considered the absence of reflux, minimal reflux, or reflux in the first 10-15 min; Grade 1 was repetitive reflux lasting less than 10 min; Grade 2 was persistent reflux; and Gr...

OBJECTIVE Surgical management of massive hernias and complex gastroesophageal reflux disease requires a tension-free repair with reliable reflux control. The aim of this observation was to evaluate the functional results of a modified Collis-Nissen gastroplasty with a transverse widening fundoplasty. METHODS Between 1995 and 2007, 26 patients underwent a 3-cm cut elongation gastroplasty with ...

UNLABELLED The diagnosis of yo-yo reflux in patients with incomplete upper collecting system duplications is difficult. We report a case with recurrent urinary tract infections and ultrasonographically detected duplication in the left collecting system in which the presence of yo-yo reflux is demonstrated with dynamic renal scintigraphy. CONFLICT OF INTEREST None declared.
