A study of the degree and gradient of attrition was undertaken on 352 molar teeth of 88 selected Nigerian subjects. A method for the quantification of attrition experience per molar tooth is described. There is a close correlation between age and the degree of attrition of the first molar. This finding may be of value in age determination in forensic odontology. The wear on the first molar is a...

UNLABELLED Many studies have shown that the greatest risk of fracture of the mandibular angle is related to the presence of an unerupted lower third molar, based on the hypothesis that there is a decrease in the area of bone and absorption of the impact in this area, leading some surgeons to indicate its prophylactic removal in patients most exposed to the risk factors of facial trauma. On the ...

The case of an immature natal maxillary first primary molar is reported. Natal molars are rare occurrences, the present instance being only the eighteenth reported case. Clinical and histologic examination revealed that the tooth was rootless, incompletely mineralized, and acutely inflamed. Subsequent radiographs showed that the tooth was actually the primary first molar.

This paper describes the autologous transplantation of a mandibular right third molar to replace the residual roots of the second molar in the same quadrant, preserving function and aesthetics. A 5-year clinical and radiographic follow-up was undertaken. After transplantation, the donor tooth received endodontic treatment and placement of calcium hydroxide, which was periodically replaced every...

The role of tooth wear as a proximate cause of senescence in ruminants has recently been highlighted. There are two competing hypotheses to explain variation in tooth height and wear; the diet-quality hypothesis predicting increased wear in low-quality habitats, and the life-history hypothesis predicting molar height to be related to expected longevity. We compared tooth height and wear from ro...

Displacement of maxillary third molar into the infratemporal fossa (ITF) is frequently mentioned but rarely reported. A case of dislocation of a maxillary third molar into the ITF is described. Imaging included CT scan that demonstrated the 3-D anatomical localization of the tooth. The tooth was found to be in the ITF, between the lateral wall of the maxillary sinus and the zygomatic arch. The ...

this case report presents an uncommon case of maxillary molar with two palatal root canals and an enamel pearl in the furcation area. the article discusses root canal complexities of maxillary second molars as well as possibility of coexisting anomalies in the region that makes radiographic interpretation difficult and compromises the success of endodontic treatment.

Supernumerary teeth are among the most common dental anomalies affecting the primary and permanent dentition. They are usually found in the anterior maxilla and occur infrequently in the primary dentition. The purpose of this paper was to report a case diagnosed with primary supernumerary tooth in the primary second molar region. The crown and root shape of the primary supernumerary tooth resem...

introduction: mandibular first molar is the most important tooth with complicated morphology. in finite element (fe) studies, investigators usually prefer to model anterior teeth with a simple and single straight root; it makes the results deviate from the actual case. the most complicated and time-consuming step in fe studies is modeling of the desired tooth, thus this study was performed to e...
