A number of experiments were conducted to compare the ability of observers to extract unidirectional and bidirectional (transparent) global-motion signals. In the unidirectional condition, the noise signal consisted of purely randomly-moving dots while in the bidirectional condition, a number of the randomly moving dots were replaced by the same number of dots moving in a specific (secondary-si...

We describe a robust technique for detecting nonstationary periodic motion from a moving and static camera. We also describe a robust technique for discriminating motion symmetries (periodic motion classification), which we apply to classifying running humans (bipeds) and canines (quadrupeds). The system has been implemented to run in real-time (30 Hz) on standard PC workstations.

In  this  paper,  a  method  is  presented  for  damage  detection  of  bridges  using  the  Enhanced Colliding Bodies Optimization (ECBO)  utilizing time-domain responses. The finite element modeling of the structure is based on  the equation of motion under the moving load, and the flexural stiffness of the structure is determined by the acceleration responses obtained via sensors placed in d...

The motion of a walking person is analyzed by examining cycles in the movement. Cycles are detected using autocorrelation and Fourier transform techniques of the smoothed spatio-temporal curvature function of trajectories created by specific points on the object as it performs cyclic motion. A large impulse in the Fourier magnitude plot indicates the frequency at which cycles are occurring. Bot...

We studied the low-level interactions between motion coherence detection and binocular correlation detection. It is well-established that e.g. depth information from motion parallax and from binocular disparities is effectively integrated. The question we aimed to answer is whether such interactions also exist at the very first correlation level that both mechanisms might have in common. First ...

it is of value to determine the amount of viable myocardial tissue in patients suffering from chronic coronary artery disease and ventricular dysfunction. having the capability of evaluating both myocardial perfusion and function, simultaneously, myocardial scanning by ecg-gated is an appropriate method for this purpose. the aim of this study was to compare the results of myocardial perfusion a...

The Automatic Identification System (AIS) tracks vessel movement by means of electronic exchange of navigation data between vessels, with onboard transceiver, terrestrial and/or satellite base stations. The gathered data contains a wealth of information useful for maritime safety, security and efficiency. This paper surveys AIS data sources and relevant aspects of navigation in which such data ...
