Here we present a hybrid approach to functionalize multi-walled carbon nanotubes in aqueous solution, exploring a non-covalent binding strategy. We focus on formation of hybrid complexes consisting of carbon nanotubes decorated by single stranded DNA, non-covalently attached using surfactants as intermediate layers. Unlike single walled carbon nanotubes, revealing easy side wall wrapping of DNA...

Polypyrrole (PPy) nanotubes with highly uniform surface and tunable wall thickness were fabricated by one-step vapor deposition polymerization (VDP) using anodic aluminium oxide (AAO) template membranes, and transformed into carbon nanotubes through a carbonization process.

Single-wall carbon nanotubes grow along self-assembled nanosteps of annealed miscut C-plane sapphire. Depending on the miscut orientation and annealing conditions, graphoepitaxy leads to the formation of either unprecedentedly straight and parallel nanotubes, with angular deviations as small as +/-0.5 degrees , or to wavy nanotubes loosely conformal to sawtooth-shaped faceted nanosteps.

Polyimide nanotubes with tunable wall thickness were fabricated by a precursor impregnation method using an AAO template, and carbon nanotubes containing magnetic iron oxide were obtained using ferric chloride-embedded polyimide precursor by a carbonization process.

We present a overview of strong correlations in single-wall carbon nanotubes, and an introduction to the techniques used to study them theoretically. We concentrate on zig-zag nanotubes, although universality dictates that much of the theory can also be applied to armchair or chiral nanotubes. We show how interaction effects lead to exotic low energy properties and discuss future directions for...

A new method of theoretical modelling of polyhedral single-walled nanotubes based on the consolidation of walls in the rolled-up multi-walled nanotubes is proposed. Molecular mechanics and ab initio quantum mechanics methods are applied to investigate the merging of walls in nanotubes constructed from the different phases of titania. The combination of two methods allows us to simulate the stru...

Bundles of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) coalesce forming multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), containing from two to six nested tubes, under thermal treatment at high temperatures [(2200-2400) degrees C]. This structural transformation is confirmed by extensive molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The simulations suggest a "patching-and-tearing" mechanism for the single-wall-to-multiwa...
