Based on the bound state description of muon and general relativistic covariant quantum field theory, we illustrate with a simple composite model that the observed deviation of (g − 2)μ can be a demonstration of the substructure of muon and give a constraint on the radius of muon in a light constituent model or the masses of constituents in a heavy constituent model.
An overview is given of muon collider technology and of the current status of the muon collider research program. The exciting potential of muon colliders for both neutrino physics and collider physics studies is then described and illustrated using self-consistent collider parameter sets at 0.1 TeV to 100 TeV center-of-mass energies.
Fast cooling of muon beams will be needed for building either TeV muon colliders that might explore the electroweak gauge symmetry breaking or muon storage rings that could become ultrabright neutrino sources. Stochastic and electron cooling take longer than the muon lifetime, so attention has been focused on the potentially faster but less explored ionization cooling. Addressing recent concern...
The primary aim of ANTARES is neutrino astronomy with upward going muons created in charged current muon neutrino interactions in the detector and its surroundings. Downward going muons are background for neutrino searches. These muons are the decay products of cosmic-ray collisions in the Earth’s atmosphere far above the detector. This paper presents a method to identify and count electromagne...
We present a review of atmospheric and underground muon flux measurements. The relevance of these data for the atmospheric neutrino flux computation is emphasized. Possible sources of systematic errors in the measurements are discussed, focusing on the sea level muon data. Underground muon data are also reported.
A Kalman filter package has been developed for reconstructing muon (μ) tracks (coming from the neutrino interactions) in ICAL detector. Here, we describe the algorithm of muon track fitting, with emphasis on the error propagation of the elements of Kalman state vector along the muon trajectory through dense materials and inhomogeneous magnetic field. The higher order correction terms are includ...
An accurate simulation of the propagation of muons through matter is needed for the analysis of data produced by muon/neutrino underground experiments. A muon may sustain hundreds of interactions before it is detected by the experiment. Since a small systematic uncertainty repeated hundreds of times may lead to sizable errors, requirements on the precision of the muon propagation code are very ...

CPT symmetry, the combination of charge conjugation, parity inversion, and time reversal, is a fundamental symmetry of particle and nuclear physics and is considered sacred. It is conserved in field theories that explain the strong, weak, and electromagnetic interactions. In the lepton sector, CPT symmetry requires that muon neutrino disappearance oscillations be identical to muon antineutrino ...
This paper describes a feasibility study for the design of the muon trigger track finder processor in the high-energy physics experiment compact muon solenoid (CMS), planned for 2005, at CERN. It covers the specification, proposed method, and a prototype implementation. Comparison between several other measurement methods and the proposed one are carried out. The task of the processor is to ide...
