Using optical spectroscopy with diffraction limited spatial resolution, the possibility of measuring the luminescence from single impurity centers in a semiconductor is demonstrated. Selectively studying individual centers that are formed by two neighboring nitrogen atoms in GaAs makes it possible to unveil their otherwise concealed polarization anisotropy, analyze their selection rules, identi...
We report on a numerical study of electronic transport in chemically doped 2D graphene materials. By using ab initio calculations, a self-consistent scattering potential is derived for boron and nitrogen substitutions, and a fully quantum-mechanical Kubo-Greenwood approach is used to evaluate the resulting charge mobilities and conductivities of systems with impurity concentration ranging withi...
Impurity scattering properties for optical excitations in boron-nitride (BN) heteropolar nanotubes are investigated theoretically. We extend the continuum k · p model of the carbon nanotubes to that of the BN systems, where site energies are introduced at the boron and nitrogen atoms in order to take account of the strong ionic properties of the BN bonds. We show that the backward scattering co...
Titanium dioxide, TiO 2 , is a widely used, yet quite inefficient photocatalyst. Among the important drawbacks, its band gap is rather large for efficient use of sunlight, and control of trapping and recombination sites for photo-excited carriers is very limited. In this talk I will present results of theoretical studies aimed at obtaining insights into issues relevant to TiO 2-based photocatal...

The two-channel Anderson impurity model serves as a prototype for describing heavy-fermion materials with a possible mixed-valent regime with both quadrupolar and magnetic character. We report on the low-energy physics of the model, using a conformal field theory approach with exact Bethe Ansatz results as input.
We attempt to interpret the different trends of collected ion currents Langmuir probe and sensitive (ISP) observed during N2 H2 seeding in hydrogen plasmas divertor simulation experimental module (D-module) GAMMA10/PDX. The current measured at collector electrode ISP shows two distinct bumps. Results can be interpreted with aid spectroscopic measurements related dominant reaction processes, whe...
Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra of synthetic diamond microcrystals with NV (-) -centers have been studied. It is shown that under the conditions irradiation material light a xenon lamp at low temperatures ~ 100 K, intensities EPR signals corresponding to "forbidden" (Delta m s =2) and field allowed =1) transitions are amplified several times, while from nitrogen ...
