The iron phosphates [C4H12N2][Fe (H2O)6](HPO4)2 (1), 3 ‘{[NH4][Fe III 2(OH)(PO4)2(H2O)]?H2O} (2) and 3 ‘{[C4H12N2][Fe III 3(PO4)3(HPO4)(H2O)]?y0.25H2O}, (3) were synthesized by hydrothermal methods and their single-crystal X-ray structures were determined. While compound 1 is only an extended hydrogen bonded network of its three ionic building blocks, compounds 2 and 3 are three-dimensional ope...

The recovery of phosphorus (P) from sewage sludge ashes has been the focus recent research due to initiatives for use biogenic resources and resource recovery. This study investigates ash transformation chemistry P in during co-gasification with K-Si- K-rich agricultural residues wheat straw sunflower husks, respectively, at temperatures relevant fluidized bed technology, namely 800 °C 950 °C. ...

Increased oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) kinetics, improved CO tolerance, and more efficient water and heat management represent significant advantages that high-temperature polymer electrolyte fuel cells (HT-PEFCs) operating with a phosphoric acid-doped polybenzimidazole (PBI) membrane offer over traditional Nafion-based, low-temperature PEFCs. However, before such HT-PEFCs become viable, the...

Glutathione-bound gold nanoclusters (AuNCs@GSH) can emit reddish photoluminescence under illumination of ultraviolet light. The luminescence of the AuNCs@GSH is quenched when chelating with iron ions (AuNCs@GSH-Fe(3+)), presumably resulting from the effective electron transfer between the nanoclusters and iron ions. Nevertheless, we found that the luminescence of the gold nanoclusters can be re...

We evaluated the inducibility of nitrate-dependent Fe(II)-EDTA oxidation (NDFO) in non-growth, chloramphenicol-amended, resting-cell suspensions of Dechloromonas sp. strain UWNR4 and Acidovorax sp. strain 2AN. Cells previously incubated with Fe(II)-EDTA oxidized ca. 6-fold more Fe(II)-EDTA than cells previously incubated with Fe(III)-EDTA. This is the first report of induction of NDFO by Fe(II).

Geological disposal is the globally preferred long-term solution for higher activity radioactive wastes (HAW) including intermediate level waste (ILW). In a cementitious system, cellulosic items present in ILW may undergo alkaline hydrolysis, producing significant quantities of isosaccharinic acid (ISA), chelating agent radionuclides. Although microbial degradation ISA has been demonstrated, it...

Relevance. Phosphate mineralization of Devonian intrusions in the Eastern zone Middle Urals is currently poorly understood, data obtained may be important for interpreting origin rocks, especially case when standard methods geochemical analysis rocks do not give a clear picture. Xenotime and monazite are minerals concentrating rare earth elements, REE distribution graphs very characteristic roc...

[1] Water played a major role in the formation and alteration of rocks and soils in the Columbia Hills. The extent of alteration ranges from moderate to extensive. Five distinct rock compositional classes were identified; the order for degree of alteration is Watchtower ffi Clovis > Wishstone ffi Peace > Backstay. The rover’s wheels uncovered one unusual soil (Paso Robles) that is the most S-ri...

The Mount Weld rare earth element (REE) deposit, Western Australia, is one of the largest its type on Earth. Current mining exploits high-grade weathered goethite-bearing resource that lies above, and which represents weathering product a subjacent carbonatite. mineralogy, petrography, deportment lanthanides among different components, variation in mineral speciation, textures, chemistry are ex...
