[1] A detailed understanding of the coupling between fluid and solid mechanics is important for understanding many processes in Earth sciences. Numerical models are a popular means for exploring these processes, but most models do not adequately handle all aspects of this coupling. This paper presents the application of a micromechanically based fluid-solid coupling scheme, lattice-Boltzmann di...

Propagation of guided waves in a solid rod surrounded by infinite media is an interesting research topic of practical importance. One important application is ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation (NDE) of rock bolts. Rock bolts are inserted into the mixture of rock and concrete to ensure the stability of the groundwork. For this research topic, it is important to study the propagation of guided...

We study the stability of solutions to a coupled evolution system associated with an isotropic porous and centrosymmetric viscoelastic solid with porous dissipation (a porous elastic system with history). With the help of the method of the semigroup theory and some novel observations, we prove successfully that the condition of equal wave-speed propagation is still necessary for exponential sta...

Porous materials are formed in nature and by man by many different processes. The nature of the pore space, which is usually the space left over as the solid backbone forms, is often controlled by the morphology of the solid backbone. In particular, sometimes the backbone is made from the random deposition of elongated crystals, which makes analytical techniques particularly difficult to apply....

A new type of solid lithium-ion conducting electrolytes prepared by incorporation of Li(+) ions into a cucurbit[6]uril (CB[6])-based organic molecular porous solid shows high Li(+) ion conductivity (∼10(-4) S cm(-1)) and mobility (transference numbers, tLi(+) = 0.7-0.8). In addition, the solid electrolytes show excellent, thermally stable performance even after several temperature cycles.

The transient thermal response of a packed bed is investigated analytically. A local thermal nonequilibrium model is used to represent the energy transport within the porous medium. The heat flux bifurcation phenomenon in porous media is investigated for temporal conditions and two primary types of heat flux bifurcations in porous media are established. Exact solutions are derived for both the ...

a numerical investigation of forced convection in a channel with hot solid block inside a square porous block mounted on a bottom wall was carried out. the lattice boltzmann method was applied for numerical simulations. the fluid flow in the porous media was simulated by brinkman-forchheimer model. the effects of parameters such as porosity and thermal conductivity ratio over flow pattern and t...

A series of novel hierarchical nanoporous microstructures have been synthesized through one-step chemical reduction of micron size Cu2O and Co3O4 particles. By controlling the reduction time, non-porous Cu2O microcubes sequentially transform to nanoporous Cu/Cu2O/Cu dented cubic composites and hollow eightling-like Cu microparticles. The mechanism involved in the complex structural evolution is...

Ceramic hollow-fibre membranes which have an asymmetric structure have been prepared in one step, using an immersion induced phase inversion technique. With this method, membranes with a high surface area per unit volume ratio can be produced, while production cost is dramatically reduced. Yttria-stabilised zirconia (YSZ) is selected as a membrane material, as it is relatively inexpensive and h...

The finite element method (FEM) is used to study the influence of porosity and pore shape on the elastic properties of model porous ceramics. The Young’s modulus of each model was found to be practically independent of the solid Poisson’s ratio. At a sufficiently high porosity, the Poisson’s ratio of the porous models converged to a fixed value independent of the solid Poisson’s ratio. The Youn...
