For anthropologists, meat eating by primates like chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) warrants examination given the emphasis on hunting in human evolutionary history. As referential models, apes provide insight into the evolution of hominin hunting, given their phylogenetic relatedness and challenges reconstructing extinct hominin behaviour from palaeoanthropological evidence. Among chimpanzees, adu...

In this paper, we assess multidimensional QoE (Quality of Experience) of HTTP-based streaming services in seeking operation to evaluate the effect of two transmission schemes: adaptive bitrate streaming and progressive download. We perform a subjective experiment with two contents and various network load conditions. In the experiment, subjects find pre-specified scenes by means of seeking the ...

Recent imaging and lesion studies suggest that the human medial temporal lobe (including the hippocampus and the perirhinal cortex), which is traditionally believed to be of central importance for memory processing, is also involved in processing and discrimination of complex visual stimuli. The aim of this study was to use functional magnetic resonance imaging in healthy subjects to further el...

Controversy over the adaptive significance of male hunting in subsistence societies hinges on the relative importance of familial provisioning and mate-quality signalling. This paper examines the proximate and ultimate motivations of hunting behaviour from a neuroendocrine perspective, using salivary testosterone and cortisol data collected before, during and after hunting focal follows from 31...

this thesis attempts to investigate the effects of prelistening activities on enhancing iranian efl learners` listening comprehension. the present study investigated ways in which learners` background knowledge could be activated in order to enhance their l2 listening comprehension by limiting the number of possible text interpretations prior to listening. the experiments conducted in this study examined the effect of prior knowledge and vocabulary teaching on iranian efl learners listening comprehension. the current study has two purposes: one is to investigate the effect of background knowledge on the second language listening comprehension of iranian intermediates and the other is to determine whether second language is facilitated by the introduction of unknown vocabularies in the form of prelistening activities. to conduct the study different instruments such as listening proficiency test and four listening tests such as pre and posttests were used and various statistical processes and techniques including paired-sample t-test, and analysis of variance (anova) were used. the findings of this study supported all three hypotheses tested. differences were found between the means of preteaching vocabulary variable, the background knowledge activation variable, and mean difference between these two strategies variable. subjects scored higher when the unknown words were taught in advance. likewise, subjects scored higher when they were asked some relevant questions about the topic than on those without them. there was, in addition, a significant difference between the means of preteaching vocabulary strategy and background knowledge activation strategy. in fact, preteaching vocabulary had a better effect in enhancing the students’ listening comprehension, in comparison to background knowledge activation strategy.

Hunting tourism is a special (selective) form of tourism and an integral part of hunting, and it is implemented with efforts to preserve and regenerate its main motive and resource (hunting grounds and game populations), at least to the extent defined as simple reproduction. It brings a significant share of revenue to the hunting sector, which is mainly focused on the improvement of habitat con...

It is part of basic emotions like fear or anger that they prepare the brain to act adaptively. Hence scenes representing emotional events are normally associated with characteristic adaptive behavior. Normally, face and body representation areas in the brain are modulated by these emotions when presented in the face or body. Here, we provide neuroimaging evidence (using functional magnetic reso...

some of the iranian artworks during the 10th-14th centuries have been illustrated by narrative scenes showing a cavalier archer king in the hunting ground of gazelles; while a tiny lyre playing girl sat back him. according to shāhnāma-i-fērdowsī and haft peykar-i- nizami ganjavi, such scenes narrate the story of sassanid king bahram-i- gūr and āzāda, his lyre player servant girl. it should be n...

Usual Structure from Motion techniques based on feature points have a hard time on scenes with little texture or presenting a single plane, as in indoor environments. Line segments are more robust features in this case. We propose a novel geometrical criterion for two-view pose estimation using lines, that does not assume a Manhattan world. We also define a parameterless (a contrario) RANSAC-li...
