UNLABELLED Seizures have been reported with tramadol monotherapy in animal and human studies, both at recommended and high doses. After tramadol abuse or overdose, neurotoxicity is speculated to be related to the reuptake inhibition of serotonin and norepinephrine, rather than its opioid effects. THE AIM OF THIS STUDY is to show three unusual cases of seizures provoked by tramadol. CASE REPOR...
Although the cause of sudden unexplained death in epilepsy patients (SUDEP) is unknown, evidence implicates respiratory compromise. Most cases occur while the patient is in bed and unsupervised. We investigated the efficacy of the Medpage bed seizure monitor to detect generalized tonic-clonic seizures. Patients with a history of tonic-clonic seizures were enrolled on a video-EEG unit. The MP5 d...
The effects of hypoxia on susceptibility to pentylenetetrazol (PTZ)-induced seizures were assessed in juvenile rats. Animals at postnatal (P) day 25 were exposed to hypobaric hypoxia (simulated altitude of 7000 m) for 8 h PTZ in a dose of 100 mg/kg was injected 1, 3 or 7 days later and latency, pattern and severity of seizures were registered. Mortality due to seizures was also evaluated. Two s...

Camphor is a pleasant smelling cyclic ketone with propensity of causing neurologic side-effects especially seizures. We report two patients who after inadvertent consumption of camphor experienced an episode of generalized tonic clonic seizure. These cases highlight the importance of enquiring any intake of material (medicinal or otherwise) in every patient presenting with seizure.
We report a case of a 42-year-old male who developed generalized tonic-clonic seizure with sudden, brief decrease in bispectral index (BIS) value while undergoing emergency kidney transplantation. Few reports have been made on intraoperative pitfall of BIS value associated with seizure. This case report suggests seizure should be taken into account as a reason for such brief fall of BIS, especi...
