Airborne Radar Simulation, in the present context, is the real-time generation of radar displays and other radar outputs, such as data exchanges with the flight computer or other avionics subsystems, consistent with the actual radar and in response to the interaction with the operator, ownship, targets, and the environment. The primary application is flight simulators for man-in-the-loop traini...

Recent developments of wave polarization effects in radar remote sensing are summarized in historical sequence resulting in Radar Polarimetry, Radar Interferometry and Polarimetric SAR Interferometry, which represent the current culmination in airborne and space borne ‘Microwave Remote Sensing’ technology. Whereas with radar polarimetry the textural fine-structure, target orientation, symmetrie...

The Tasman International Geospace Environment Radar (TIGER), which is part of the global SuperDARN network, is a dual HF radar system with overlapping footprints designed to map ionospheric motions by detecting ionospheric scatter. The stereo SuperDARN radar concept is an interesting new innovation that effectively enables two radars to operate from the one site, sharing expensive infrastructur...

Previous work using neutron spectrometer data and earth-based 70 cm radar has proven useful in mapping TiO2 on the lunar surface but with coarse resolution. Spectral data from the Clementine mission attempted to map TiO2 at higher resolution but accuracy was low. With new 12.5 cm Mini-RF radar data from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter I attempted to build a higher resolution TiO2 map by compar...

The signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) performance of SAR imagery knowledge-aided (KA) airborne moving target indicator (AMTI) radar subjected to severely taxing environmental disturbances is investigated for radar-blind and radar-seeing highly compressed SAR imagery. Radar-seeing schemes are found to greatly outperform radar-blind techniques.

Passive Bistatic Radar (PBR), or Passive Coherent Location, is gaining interest in the radar community as it provides some advantages with respect to active radar. Although, passive radar does not aim to replace active radar, it provides a good complement to it. The computational effort that is required to implement the required signal processing is one of the drawbacks that affect passive rada...

The paper presents an analysis of the performance of different radar algorithms for rainfall estimation. These are the conventional one based on radar reflectivity factor Z and three polarimetric estimators utilizing different combinations of Z, specific differential phase KDP, and differential reflectivity ZDR. A dense micronetwork of 42 gauges in central Oklahoma, USA, is used for validating ...

The construction of a radar coordinate system about the world line of an observer is discussed. Radar coordinates for a hyperbolic observer as well as a uniformly rotating observer are described in detail. The utility of the notion of radar distance and the admissibility of radar coordinates are investigated. Our results provide a critical assessment of the physical significance of radar coordi...

Doppler radar data are increasingly used in rainfall-runoff synthesis studies, perhaps due to radar data availability, among other factors. However, the veracity of the radar data are often a topic of concern. In this paper, three Doppler radar outcomes developed by the United States National Weather Service at three radar sites are examined and compared to actual rain gage data for two separat...

This paper introduces to the lecture series dedicated to the knowledge-based radar signal and data processing. Knowledge-based expert system (KBS) is in the realm of artificial intelligence. KBS consists of a knowledge base containing information specific to a problem domain and an inference engine that employs reasoning to yield decisions. KBS have been built: some are very complex with thousa...
