What is now known as the Gibbs phenomenon was first observed in the context of truncated Fourier expansions, but other versions of it arise also in situations such as truncated integral transforms and for different interpolation methods. Radial basis functions (RBF) is a modern interpolation technique which includes both splines and trigonometric interpolations as special cases in 1-D, and it g...
Mapping algorithms commonly use “radial sweeps” of the surrounding environment as input. Producing a sweep is a challenging task for a robot using only vision. With no odometers to measure turn angles, a vision-based robot must have another method to verify rotations. In this paper we propose using the Radial Obstacle Profile (ROP) which gives the radial distance to the nearest obstacle in any ...
The radial spoke (RS) is a complex of at least 23 proteins that works as a mechanochemical transducer between the central-pair apparatus and the peripheral microtubule doublets in eukaryotic flagella and motile cilia. The RS contributes to the regulation of the activity of dynein motors, and thus to flagellar motility. Despite numerous biochemical, physiological and structural studies, the mech...
In standard equispaced finite difference (FD) formulas, symmetries can make the order of accuracy relatively high compared to the number of nodes in the FD stencil. With scattered nodes, such symmetries are no longer available. Thus, the number of nodes in the stencils can be relatively large compared to the resulting accuracy. The generalization of mehrstellenverfahren (compact) FD (CFD) formu...
In this paper we consider numerical integration over the sphere by radial basis functions (RBF). After a brief introduction on RBF and spherical radial basis functions (SRBF), we show how to compute integrals of functions whose values are known at scattered data points. Numerical examples are given.
In this paper we propose a meshfree technique for the numerical solution of the two dimensional Burger’s equation. Collocation method using the Radial Basis Functions (RBFs) is coupled with first order accurate finite difference approximation. Different types of RBFs are used for this purpose. Performance of the proposed method is successfully tested in terms of various error norms. In the case...
In this paper, a technique generally known as meshless method is presented for solving fractional partial differential equations (FPDEs). Some physical linear and nonlinear experiments such as time-fractional convective-diffusion equation, timefractional wave equation and nonlinear space-fractional Fisher's equation are considered. We present the advantages of using the radial basis functions (...
Radial neuropathy is frequently associated with fracture of the middle third of the humerus owing to the course of the nerve adjacent to the humeral shaft. The prevalence varies from 2 to 18% of humeral fractures. The therapeutic management is still controversial. Some authors recommend initial surgical exploration, whereas others prefer observation and intervention only if the injured nerve fa...
Radial and ulnar sensory nerve action potentials were recorded in patients referred for the electrophysiological confirmation of the carpal tunnel syndrome. Comparisons with values obtained in control neurological patients provided no evidence of a generalised neuropathy in such patients, as had previously been suggested.
The results obtained by radial haemolysis in the detection of antibodies to rubella virus compared well with those obtained by haemagglutination inhibition. Radial haemolysis is unaffected by non-specific inhibitors. The sera do not therefore require pretreatment and the results are less equivocal. Radial haemolysis appears to be as sensitive as immunofluorescence and floatation centrifugation....
