• Viromics enables viral source tracking of human viruses in the aquatic environment shows geographically and niche-distinct communities Viral richness increases from wastewater to receiving riverine/estuarine water Full genomes sapo/rota/astro/picornaviruses were found Sapovirus was detected all sample types highlighting public health risks The discharge wastewater-derived environments impacts...
Stool specimens from hospitalized infants with sporadic gastroenteritis in Chiang Mai, Thailand, between July 2000 and July 2001 were examined for norovirus and sapovirus by reverse transcription-PCR and sequence analysis. These viruses were identified in 13 of 105 (12%) specimens. One strain was found to be a recombinant norovirus.
We report here the first complete genome sequences of genotype GI.3, GI.4, GI.6, GI.7, and GII.7 sapovirus strains, detected from fecal samples of acute gastroenteritis patients. Complete or nearly complete genome sequences of all 18 genotypes of human sapoviruses are now available for phylogenetic analysis and primer design.
BACKGROUND Enteric viruses are a major cause of diarrhea in children, especially those <5 years old. Identifying the viral agents is critical to the development of effective preventive measures. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of common enteric viruses in children <5 years old presented with diarrhea to the Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University. METHODS Five hundred...
Sapoviruses, members of the family Caliciviridae, are genetically highly diverse. We report here the first complete genome sequence of a genogroup V genotype 2 sapovirus strain, NGY-1, detected from fecal samples of a suspected foodborne gastroenteritis outbreak, determined using a metagenomic sequencing approach.
We describe the genetic diversity of sapovirus (SaV) in children in Nicaragua and investigate the role of host genetic factors and susceptibility to SaV infections. Our results indicate that neither ABO blood group, Lewis phenotype, nor secretor status affects susceptibility to SaV infection in Nicaragua.
Porcine sapovirus is an enteric calicivirus in domestic pigs that belongs to the family Caliciviridae. Some porcine sapoviruses are genetically related to human caliciviruses, which has raised public health concerns over animal reservoirs and the potential cross-species transmission of sapoviruses. We report on the incidence, genetic diversity, and molecular epidemiology of sapoviruses detected...
