Avian influenza viruses (AIV) affect a wide range of birds and mammals, cause severe economic damage to the poultry industry, and pose a serious threat to humans. Highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (HPAI) H5N1 were first identified in Southeast Asia in 1996 and spread to four continents over the following years. The viruses have caused high mortality in chickens and various bird species ...

Leucothrix mucor Oersted, the primary cause of filamentous gill disease in cultured shrimp, was treated with algicides and surfactants by a serial dilution method. It was found to be highly sensitive to those algicides containing quaternary ammonium compounds. Copper-containing compounds and Formalin were less effective, whereas potassium permanganate and two surfactants, Dreft and Alconox, wer...

The synthesis of a series of euphorbioside derivatives is described, starting from euphorbioside isolated from fresh latex of Euphorbia resinifera Berg. Their structures have been established on the basis of spectral data. All compounds were evaluated for antibacterial activities against Escherichia coli and Staphyloccus aureus strains and antifungal activity against Candida albicans and Asperg...

Fungal strains isolated from poultry farm soil by Waksman serial dilution method were screened for alkaline protease production. Isolate PF/F/107, the most potent producer of alkaline protease was identified as Aspergillus versicolor. The isolate PF/F/107 showed highest activity in the optimized medium I at pH 9.0, temperature 35oC, with 1% wheat bran and 1% sodium nitrate incubated for 4 days.

The radiometric method has been used to detect the presence of bacteria in serial dilutions of nine bacterial species with and without agitation. It was also found that the detection time is proportional to the dilution showing high sensitivity down to one colony forming unit and the agitation resulted in different manners depending upon bacterial species (JPMA 37 : 34 , 1987).

Representatives of only four well-characterized bacterial phyla were isolated from a pasture soil by using liquid serial dilution culture. In contrast, members of Acidobacteria, Verrucomicrobia, and Gemmatimonadetes and of other poorly represented bacterial lineages were isolated in earlier experiments with solidified versions of the same media. We conclude that, contrary to expectation, liquid...
