In the present study, Composite materials based on perfluorinated cation-exchange membrane incorporating particles of Zirconium and Nafion is synthesized .With this membrane the performance of the electrolysis cell improved considerably at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. In addition, by using catalysts and membranes, the performance of this Composite membrane is studied by varying vo...

The dynamics of water and its effect on proton transport kinetics in Nafion membranes are compared at several hydration levels. Nafion is the most widely used polyelectrolyte membrane in fuel cells. Ultrafast infrared spectroscopy of the O-D stretch of dilute HOD in H2O provides a probe of the local environment and hydrogen bond network dynamics of water confined in the hydrophilic regions of N...

Aggregation in heat-treated Nafion ionomer dispersion and 117 membrane are investigated by 1H and 19F Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectra, spin-lattice relaxation time, and self-diffusion coefficient measurements. Results demonstrate that heat-treatment affects the average Nafion particle size in aqueous dispersions. Measurements on heat-treated Nafion 117 membrane show changes in the 1H i...

In this paper, MgB2 bulks were prepared with doped TiO2 nanoparticles surface-modified by 5-10% SiO2. Quantitative X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis was performed to obtain the weight fraction of impurities using the Rietveld method. The effects of addition of TiO2/SiO2 nanoparticles on the critical temperature (Tc), the upper critical field (Hc2), and the irreversibility field (Hirr) as a funct...

The complex environment experienced by water molecules in the hydrophilic channels of Nafion fuel cell membranes is studied by ultrafast infrared pump-probe spectroscopy. A wavelength dependent study of the vibrational lifetime of the O-D stretch of dilute HOD in H2O confined in Nafion membranes provides evidence of two distinct ensembles of water molecules. While only two ensembles are present...

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) incorporated ordered 2D hexagonal mesoporous silica (SiO2) films on a glass substrate were fabricated for use as a catalytic nanoreactor. Films were prepared using a tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) derived SiO2 sol and a commercially available dispersion of TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) in the presence of pluronic P123 as the structure directing agent. The effect of TiO2 dopi...

Development of cheap, abundant and metal-free N-doped carbon materials as high efficiency oxygen reduction electrocatalysts is crucial for their practical applications in future fuel cell devices. Here, three-dimensional (3D) N-doped porous carbon (NPC) materials have been successfully developed by a simple template-assisted (e.g., SiO2 spheres) high temperature pyrolysis approach using shrimp-...

The proton conductivity of a series of extruded Nafion membranes @of equivalent weight ~EW! of 1100 and nominal dry thickness of 51, 89, 127, and 178 mm# has been studied. Measurements were made in 1 M H2SO4 at 298 K using a four-electrode, dc technique. The membrane area resistance increases with thickness, as expected, from 0.07 to 0.16 V cm for Nafion 112 and Nafion 117, respectively. Howeve...

A new class of nitrogen-doped ordered mesoporous carbon/silica (N-OMC/SiO2) nanocomposites was successfully fabricated via a multi-constituent co-assembly strategy. The N-OMC/SiO2 nanocomposite presented a unique interpenetrating carbon/silica structure whose carbon/silica interface is highly uniform, and thus demonstrated high capacity, good cycling and excellent rate properties.
