Deterioration of concrete members due to corrosion of steel reinforcements is one of the major problems which reduces the service life time of bridges, especially in Canada due to the use of de·icier applications. The cost of correcting corrosion-induced distress in bridges is high compared to the capital cost of the structure. To overcome this problem, the City of Calgary has decided to constr...

The Java Card technology has progressed to the point of running web servers and web clients on a smart card. Yet concrete deployments of multi-applications smart cards have remained extremely rare because the business model of the asynchronous download and update of applications by different parties requires the control of interactions among possible applications after the card has been fielded...

Autonomic control is vital to the success of large-scale distributed and open IoT systems, which must simultaneously cater for the interests of several parties. However, developing and maintaining autonomic controllers is highly difficult and costly. To illustrate this problem, this paper considers a system that could be deployed in the future, integrating smart homes within a smart microgrid. ...

Waters’ variant of the Boneh-Boyen IBE scheme is attractive because of its efficency, applications, and security attributes, but suffers from a relatively complex proof with poor concrete security. This is due in part to the proof’s “artificial abort” step, which has then been inherited by numerous derivative works. It has often been asked whether this step is necessary. We show that it is not,...

abstract in aggregate, active forms of reactive silica with mineral names are sometimes associated with sand and gravel in concrete mixture. alkali hydroxides originated from alkalis in the cement or other resources form an alkaline silica gel with this reactive silica which becomes swallowed and expanded during time causing damage to concrete. there have been growing researches on alkaline r...

This paper presents a comprehensive review of current trends and opportunities for sustainable concrete construction, emphasizing the importance adopting eco-friendly practices to mitigate industry's environmental impact. Green concrete, supplementary cementitious materials, permeable cool use local materials are explored as technologies. Innovations like self-healing 3D-printed photocatalytic ...

When hybrid fibre Reinforced Ternary Blended (HFRTB) concretes were exposed to sustained elevated temperatures for three hours (SET-3hrs), the effect of two cooling regimes (sudden and gradual) was examined. At 100o C intervals, temperature ranges from 1000o C. Traditional concrete is compared ternary blended (TB) (Cement + fly ash GGBFS Cement silica fume), as well fibres (Galvanized iron poly...

In this note, we describe an error in the proof for CLRW2 given by Landecker et al. in their paper at CRYPTO 2012 on the beyond-birthday-bound security for tweakable block ciphers. We are able to resolve the issue, give a new bound for the security of CLRW2, and identify a potential limitation of this proof technique when looking to extend the scheme to provide asymptotic security.

We consider compositional properties of reactive systems that are secure in a cryptographic sense. We follow the well-known simulatability approach of modern cryptography, i.e., the specification is an ideal system and a real system should in some sense simulate this ideal one...
