Following the accidental finding of inclusion bodies similar to Anaplasma platys in a stained blood smear from a cat, DNA analysis of the 16S rRNA gene was performed and 100% identity was found with different strains of A. platys. These data confirm that cats are susceptible to parasitism by A. platys.

We describe a case of urethritis caused by group B streptococci. The diagnosis was confirmed by examination of a Gram stained smear, isolation of the organism from the urethral discharge, and also by the clinical response to treatment with phenoxymethyl penicillin.

Neisseria mucosa was isolated in pure culture from a purulent ocular infection of a newborn. The initial Gram-stained smear revealed intracellular gram-negative diplococci. The organism showed resistance to vancomycin, colistin, and trimethoprim in susceptibility testing and grew well on Thayer-Martin medium.
