[1] A strong relationship between ENSO (El Nino/Southern Oscillation) and atmospheric short-term variability in the near-surface zonal wind is reported in the present study. On one hand, anomalies in the variance of the short-term atmospheric variability over the western Pacific tend to lead El Nino development. On the other hand, the activity of the fast atmospheric variability over the centra...

El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) has been linked to climate anomalies throughout the world. This paper presents an overview of global ENSO-streamflow teleconnection and identifies regions where the relationship may be exploited to forecast streamflow several months ahead. The teleconnection is investigated by fitting a first harmonic to 24-month El Nino streamflow composites from 581 catchme...

With new forthcoming intense neutrino beams, for the study of neutrino oscillations, it is possible to consider other physics experiments that can be done with these extreme neutrino fluxes available close to the source.

Whereas the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) affects weather and climate variability worldwide, the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) represents the dominant climate pattern in the North Atlantic region. Both climate systems have been demonstrated to considerably influence ecological processes. Several other large-scale climate patterns also exist. Although less well known outside the field o...

The role of neutrinos in big bang nucleosynthesis is reviewed. Neutrino oscillations in the early universe both in resonance and non-resonance case are briefly discussed. BBN and supernova limits on heavy sterile neutrinos with the mass in 10-100 MeV range are presented and compared with direct experimental bounds.

We show that Friedel oscillations (FO) in grapehene are strongly affected by the chirality of electrons in this material. In particular, the FO of the charge density around an impurity show a faster (deltarho approximately r;{-3}) decay than in conventional 2D electron systems and do not contribute to a linear temperature-dependent correction to the resistivity. In contrast, the FO of the excha...

It is known that the El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) phenomenon induces marked climate variability across many parts of the world. However, in seeking useful relationships between ENSO and climate, several indices are available. In addition to the choice of index, previous studies assessing ENSO effects have employed a range of different methods to classify periods as El Nino, La Nina or Ne...

Neutrino mixing and basics of neutrino oscillations are considered. Recent evidences in favour of neutrino oscillations, obtained in the solar and atmospheric neutrino experiments, are discussed. Neutrino oscillations in the solar and atmospheric ranges of ∆m2are considered in the framework of the minimal scheme with the mixing of three massive neutrinos.

The motivation, present status, and future plans of the search for ββ(0ν) decay are reviewed. It is argued that, motivated by the recent observations of neutrino oscillations, there is a reasonable hope that ββ(0ν) decay corresponding to the neutrino mass scale suggested by oscillations, mν ≈ 50 meV, actually exists. The challenges to achieve the sensitivity corresponding to this mass scale, an...
