PURPOSE A new segmentation technique is implemented for automatic lumen area extraction and stent strut detection in intravascular optical coherence tomography (OCT) images for the purpose of quantitative analysis of in-stent restenosis (ISR). In addition, a user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI) is developed based on the employed algorithm toward clinical use. METHODS Four clinical dat...

BACKGROUND Lateral crural strut graft has been used in rhinoplasty to correct deformities such as bulbous nasal tip, lateral crus malposition, alar retraction, collapsed external valve, lateral crus concavity, and alar deformity after domal suture. Despite its widespread use, the lateral crural strut graft has not been the subject of studies that show its benefits objectively and statistically....

BACKGROUND Rhinoplasty is one of the most challenging esthetic surgeries. The ability to achieve precise and predictable changes in the shape and position of the nasal tip is still among one of the demanding areas of rhinoplasty. Columellar strut is one of many techniques to ensure an adequate nasal tip projection and rotation; however, there is little evidence to support long-term efficacy of ...

The everolimus-eluting bioresorbable vascular scaffold (BVS, Abbott Vascular, Santa Clara, CA) is an exciting advance in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), providing a temporary coronary scaffold for at least 3 months and being resorbed by about 2 years.1–3 Along with patient preference, potential advantages over metallic stents include restored vasomotion, reduced late thrombosis, and u...

IMPORTANCE Despite multiple fixation techniques, the optimal method of repairing mandibular angle fractures remains controversial. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the outcomes when using a 3-dimensional, curved strut plate in repair of angle of the mandible fractures. DESIGN Retrospective cohort study. SETTING Level I trauma center at an academic institution in Harris County, Texas. PARTICIPANTS ...

Solutions to the Einstein equation that represent the superposition of static isolated bodies with axially symmetry are presented. The equations nonlinearity yields singular structures (strut and membranes) to equilibrate the bodies. The force on the strut like singularities is computed for a variety of situations. The superposition of a ring and a particle is studied in some detail.

A pillared-paddlewheel type metal-organic framework material featuring bodipy- and porphyrin-based struts, and capable of harvesting light across the entire visible spectrum, has been synthesized. Efficient-essentially quantitative-strut-to-strut energy transfer (antenna behavior) was observed for the well-organized donor-acceptor assembly consituting the ordered MOF structure.

INTRODUCTION Perioperative complications are well known during partial and total hip arthroplasty. One of the common categories of these complications is an intraoperative fractures of the proximal femur. Here we discuss a case of perforation of posteromedial cortex of the proximal femur, while doing a press fit modular bipolar hemiarthroplasty, in a young adult with secondary nonunion of the f...

Transportation is a large and growing part of the world’s energy consumption. This drives a need for reduced weight of rail vehicles, just as it does for road vehicles. In spite of weight reductions, the vehicle still has to provide the same level of acoustic comfort for the passengers. Porous materials, with more than 90% air, are often included in multi-layer vehicle panels, contributing to a...
