INTRODUCTION Anterior dislocation of the shoulder joint with an ipsilateral fracture of the humeral shaft is a rare injury which may require demanding technical skills. CASE PRESENTATION A 33 years old male sustained a work accident. Radiographs showed an anterior dislocation of the shoulder with a transverse fracture of the middle third of the humeral shaft on the same side. The dislocation ...
Femoral neck fractures are common in the elderly after low-energy falls. They are broadly grouped into either intracapsular or extracapsular fractures. We report an unusual subcapital femoral neck intra-extracapsular fracture and discuss the management of such a case with its inherent problems.
HUMERAL condylar fractures are among the most common fractures seen in dogs and account for approximately 20 per cent of the author’s canine fracture caseload, although this is a referral population and probably does not represent the true incidence of these injuries. It has long been recognised that spaniels are predisposed to humeral condylar fractures. It is now recognised that many of these...
Radial nerve injury is a recognised complication associated with humeral shaft fracture. A case of iatrogenic radial nerve injury is presented following fracture reduction. The relevant anatomy, challenges in management of humeral fractures with associated radial nerve injury, and the importance of detailed clinical assessment and documentation are discussed.
BACKGROUND Subcapital femoral neck is known to cause many complications, such as avascular necrosis (AVN) of the femoral head or nonunion, compared with other femoral neck fractures. The purpose of this study was to analyze the incidence of AVN and fixation failures in patients treated with internal fixation using cannulated screws for the subcapital femoral neck fractures. METHODS This study...
Ten cases of a complication of Garden screw fixation of subcapital fracture, namely subtrochanteric fracture through the lower screw hole, are presented. Their possible aetiology, prevention and difficulties in management are discussed. It is recommended that, during the insertion of Garden screws, care should be taken to avoid multiple attempts at passing the guide wire. If subtrochanteric fra...
OBJECTIVE The study aims to compare minimally invasive percutaneous plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) and open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) in the treatment of proximal humeral fracture in elder patients. METHOD PubMed, Medline, EMbase, Ovid, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wangfang, and VIP Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals were searched to identify...
We report a male patient who presented with suspicion of skeletal metastases based upon an abnormal 99-mTc bone scan, which showed increased uptake at both femoral heads, left femoral neck, and several ribs. The images also suggested reflex sympathetic dystrophy, subcapital fracture of the left femur, and rib fractures. A diagnosis of hypophosphataemic osteomalacia was finally made.
We illustrate a rare complex dislocation of the elbow involving a posterior ulno-humeral dislocation associated with open diaphyseal fracture of the ulna, radial shaft fracture, Type 1 coronoid fracture and neuropraxia of the deep branch of the radial nerve. The isolated ulno-humeral dislocation without radio-capitellar involvement, and ulnar diaphyseal fracture, makes this "reverse Monteggia" ...
ABSTRACT Introduction: In areas where intraoperative radiography facilities are not available, open reduction is an acceptable treatment option for fracture treatment. The aim of this investigation was to compare the outcomes of closed reduction to open reduction with cross-pinning fixation in Gartland Type III supracondylar humeral fracture extensions. Methods: In this retrospective study, clo...
