Introduction: Much work has been done using time series of T2* or T2 weighted images to consider physiologic processes ([1], [2]). Such weighted images include contributions from other weighting factors including T1, proton spin density, and inflow effects. Such contributions limit the ability to extract quantifiable measurements from a single image acquisition after a single excitation. To obt...

Purpose To determine if metal artifact reduction can minimize magnetic susceptibility artifacts in the orbits for an eye plaque brachytherapy patient with metallic dental braces. Material and methods A 62-year-old female patient with a choroidal melanoma in the right eye received a 1.5 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) simulation for 3D eye plaque brachytherapy planning. The protocol include...

The purpose of this study was to investigate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the normal feline eyeand optic nerves using T1-weighted and T2-weighted images. A total of 6 healthy female domestic short haircats age 2-2.5 years and weighing 3.2 ± 0.4 kg were selected. Magnetic resonance imaging data werecollected using GEMSOW (Philips) at a magnetic field strength of 1.5 T. Dorsal, sagittal, a...

White matter myelination is essential to postnatal neurologic maturation and can be accurately evaluated by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Accordingly, MRI pulse sequences should be optimized for detection of myelin in young children. T1-weighted images are most useful during the first year of life. These demonstrate myelin-related white matter hyperintensity consequent to increasing cholest...

A multichannel statistical classifier for detecting prostate cancer was developed and validated by combining information from three different magnetic resonance (MR) methodologies: T2-weighted, T2-mapping, and line scan diffusion imaging (LSDI). From these MR sequences, four different sets of image intensities were obtained: T2-weighted (T2W) from T2-weighted imaging, Apparent Diffusion Coeffic...

We report here a nanospherical polymer consisting of methacrylic acid and N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide, which works as a metal-free magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) sensor for pH. The nanospherical polymer gave a lower signal T2-weighted MRI image with decreasing pH. In contrast, it had little effect on the T1-weighted MRI image.

PURPOSE To test the hypothesis that calcium can be visible on MR images without being visible on CT. METHODS Five different calcium salts ranging in concentration from 0 to 0.45 g/mL were suspended in 2% agarose gel and studied using T2-weighted MR, T1-weighted MR, and CT. MR signal intensity, CT attenuation, and image noise were measured. Relative visibility was determined from these measure...

PURPOSE Nasopharyngeal inflammatory pseudotumor (NIPT) is hard to differentiate from infiltrating nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) on conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The purpose of this study is to determine whether discrepant lesion sizes estimated on T1- and fat-suppressed T2-weighted images can help distinguish between NIPT and NPC. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed MRI data...

Fig. 1.-A, Lateral skull radiograph shows a large midline calcified mass in corpus callosum region. B, CT with IV contrast enhancement shows midline density in falx region. C, Midsagittal T1-weighted (300 / 40) MR image shows a large mass of mixed signal intensity in falx cerebri region . Note that posterior half of body and splenium of corpus callosum have been replaced by tumor (straight arro...
