In a railway network with dense traffic, trains’ scheduled arrival and departure times are highly dependent on each other and even a small delay easily propagates to subsequent trains using the same infrastructure resources. In the current paper a given timetable is compared to a modified timetable, where the assigned minimum time slot in the traffic for a service is linearly increasing with th...

The growing demand for railway capacity has led to high capacity consumption at times and a delay-sensitive network with insufficient robustness. The fundamental challenge is therefore to decide how to increase the robustness. To do so there is a need for accurate measures that return whether the timetable is robust or not and indicate where improvements should be made. Previously presented mea...

We present an extension of the well-known time-expanded approach for timetable information. By remodeling unimportant stations, we are able to obtain faster query times with less space consumption than the original model. Moreover, we show that our extensions harmonize well with speed-up techniques whose adaption to timetable networks is more challenging than one might expect.

Local bus network is the most popular transit mode and the only available transit mode in the majority of cities of the world. Increasing the utility of this mode which increases its share from urban trips is an important goal for city planners. Timetable setting as the second component of bus network design problem (network route design timetable setting vehicle assignment crew assignment) hav...

Timetable information is the process of determining a suitable travel route for a passenger. Due to delays in the original timetable, in practice it often happens that the travel route cannot be used as originally planned. For a passenger being already en route, it would hence be useful to know about alternatives that ensure that his/her destination can be reached. In this work we propose a rec...
