A new classification theorem for links by the authors and Roger Fenn leads to computable link invariants. As an illustration we distinguish the left and right trefoils and recover the result of Carter et al that the 2-twist-spun trefoil is not isotopic to its orientation reverse. We sketch the proof the classification theorem. Full details will appear elsewhere AMS Classification 57Q45; 57M25, ...

The most tight conformation of the trefoil knot found by the SONO algorithm is presented. Structure of the set of its self-contact points is analyzed.

This study investigated the performance of steers grazing rhizomatous birdsfoot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus L.) (RBFT) compared to nonrhizomatous birdsfoot trefoil (BFT) in pure stands or when interseeded with endophyte-free tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.; TF). Five forage treatments of RBFT, BFT, TF, RBFT+TF, and BFT+TF (four replicate paddocks per treatment) were continuously stocke...

We give a short proof inspired by Carter et al [1] that the 2–twist-spun trefoil is not isotopic to its orientation reverse. The proof uses a computer calculation of the third homology group of the three colour rack. We also give a new proof using the same calculation of the well-known fact that the left and right trefoil knots are not isotopic. AMS Classification 57Q45; 57M25, 57M27

PURPOSE Through cDNA array analyses and immunohistochemistry on tissue microarrays, trefoil factor 3 (TFF3) was recently shown to be overexpressed in prostate cancer. The purpose of this study was to test the feasibility of using the levels of trefoil factors as a plasma marker for prostate cancer. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN In 79 patients with prostate cancer, 23 patients with benign prostatic hype...

Fascin is the main actin filament bundling protein in filopodia. Because of the important role filopodia play in cell migration, fascin is emerging as a major target for cancer drug discovery. However, an understanding of the mechanism of bundle formation by fascin is critically lacking. Fascin consists of four β-trefoil domains. Here, we show that fascin contains two major actin-binding sites,...

A cDNA encoding rat intestinal trefoil factor (rITF) was prepared by reverse transcription and PCR amplification. The sequence obtained was well conserved with that of other trefoil peptides. An antisense riboprobe produced from the clone was used to localize the sites of ITF expression in the rat gastrointestinal tract using hybridization in situ. We found rITF mRNA in goblet cells in the smal...

STUDY DESIGN Cross-sectional. PURPOSE To examine the relationship between magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) morphology stenosis grades and preoperative walking ability in patients with lumbar canal stenosis (LCS). OVERVIEW OF LITERATURE No previous study has analyzed the correlation between MRI morphology stenosis grades and walking ability in patients with LCS. METHODS This prospective st...
