In many supercomputing applications, high data reference locality (HDL) allows hardware and software designers to reduce the impact of long data access latency through caching and migration techniques. Other applications (e.g., cryptography, data mining) exhibit low data reference locality (LDL), forcing system designers to pursue minimum data access latency using non-traditional techniques. Th...

Cadmium Sulphide (CdS) nanoparticles were prepared using microemulsion method using cadmium chloride as cadmium source and sodium sulphide as sulphur source. The obtained nanoparticles structures were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) whereas optical characterization was done by Ultra Violet-Visible absorption. XRD result shows that CdS nanopart...

Optical data extinction using ultra-long SOA is evaluated up to 56 Gb/s. The analysis of the deleterious effects such as spectral broadening and imperfect erasing predicts useful carrier wavelength reuse up to 20 Gb/s. Keywords—Optical Carrier reuse, Optical Data Processing, Semiconductor Optical Amplifier.

This paper discusses key results in the field of high speed optical networking with particular focus on packet-based systems. Schemes for optical packet labeling, packet switching and packet synchronization will be discussed, along with schemes for optical clock recovery, channel identification and detection of ultra-high-speed optical signals.

We demonstrate a cascaded optical link for ultrastable frequency dissemination comprised of two compensated links of 150 km and a repeater station. Each link includes 114 km of Internet fiber simultaneously carrying data traffic through a dense wavelength division multiplexing technology, and passes through two routing centers of the telecommunication network. The optical reference signal is in...

Optical packet compression/expansion allows an ultra-fast media access in packet-switched optical networks. A novel optical packet rate-conversion scheme enabling simultaneous compression/expansion and serial-to-parallel conversion of large optical packets is proposed and investigated. Thereby the rate-conversion time is reduced.

Ultra-compact silicon-photonic-crystal-waveguide-based thermo-optic and electro-optical Mach-Zehnder interferometers have been proposed and fabricated. Thermal and electrical simulations and optical characterizations have been performed. Experimental results were in good agreement with the theoretical predictions.

We describe operational challenges and progress of optical frequency-comb dividers (OFDs) that synthesize RF signals from the optical domain. Our priorities include: (1) ultra-low phase-noise, (2) continuous operation, and (3) broadly low Allan deviation.
