To determine the spinal innervation and neuronal connections is important for studying gastric carbohydrate metabolism and motor responses. Neurons involved in the efferent control of the stomach were identified following visualization of pseudorabies virus (PRV)-614 retrograde tracing. PRV-614 was injected into the ventral stomach wall in 13 adult C57BL/6J strain male mice. On the fifth day po...

No pseudorabies virus (PRV)-specific neutralizing or immunoglobulin G1-type antibodies were detected in sera 5 days after injection of a DNA vaccine against PRV infection in pigs. PRV-stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells produced gamma interferon mRNA in vitro. Two out of five pigs recovered from lethal PRV infection without attenuation of nasal viral excretion.

Herpesvirus envelope glycoproteins play important roles in the interaction between virions and target cells. In the alphaherpesvirus pseudorabies virus (PrV), seven glycoproteins that all constitute homologs of glycoproteins found in herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) have been characterized, including a homolog of HSV-1 glycoprotein H (gH). Since HSV-1 gH is found associated with another esse...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE During herpesvirus envelopment capsids, tegument polypeptides and membrane proteins assemble at the site of budding, and a cellular lipid bilayer becomes refashioned into a spherical envelope. A web of interactions between tegument proteins and the cytoplasmic tails of viral glycoproteins play a critical role in this process. We have previously demonstrated that for her...

PURPOSE c-fos expression in spinal neurons that are activated by lower urinary tract stimulation are not organ specific. In this experiment, we demonstrated changes of c-fos expression in bladder-specific preganglionic neurons (PGNs) and interneurons using pseudorabies virus (PRV). MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty Sprague-Dawley rats were used. We identified the neuronal pathway associated with th...

Heart and skeletal muscle inflammation (HSMI) is a significant and often fatal disease of cultured Atlantic salmon in Norway. The consistent presence of Piscine orthoreovirus (PRV) in HSMI diseased fish along with the correlation of viral load and antigen with development of lesions has supported the supposition that PRV is the etiologic agent of this condition; yet the absence of an in vitro c...

Sequence analysis within the long segment of the pseudorabies virus (PrV) genome identified an open reading frame of 804 bp whose deduced protein product of 268 amino acids exhibited homology to dUTPases of other herpesviruses. The gene was designated UL50 because of its colinearity with the homologous gene of herpes simplex virus type 1. An antiserum raised against a bacterially expressed frag...

A large number of studies have demonstrated that autophagy is involved in the infection processes of different pathogens. Autophagy is now recognized as an essential component of innate and adaptive immunity. Several herpesviruses have developed various strategies to evade this antiviral mechanism. Pseudorabies virus (PRV) is a swine herpesvirus with a broad host range that causes devastating d...

Infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus (IHNV) is endemic in farmed rainbow trout in continental Europe and in various salmonid fish species at the Pacific coast of North America. IHN has never occurred in European Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) farms, but is considered as a major threat for the European salmon industry. Another virus, Piscine orthoreovirus (PRV), is widespread in the sea phase ...

BACKGROUND Heart rate variability (HRV) is a signal obtained from RR intervals of electrocardiography (ECG) signals to evaluate the balance between the sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system; not only HRV but also pulse rate variability (PRV) extracted from finger pulse plethysmography (PPG) can reflect irregularities that may occur in heart rate and control procedure...
