Genes of the MAGE-A family are expressed in several types of solid tumors but are silent in normal tissues with the exception of male germline cells, which do not carry HLA molecules. Therefore, peptides encoded by MAGE-A genes are strictly tumor-specific antigens that can be recognized by CTL and constitute promising targets for immunotherapy. The expression of 6 genes of the MAGE-A family was ...

LL-37 is the only antimicrobial peptide (AMP) of the human cathelicidin family. In addition to potent antimicrobial activity, LL-37 is known to have the potential to inhibit lipolysaccharide (LPS)-induced endotoxic effects. To provide the stability to proteolytic digestion and increase prokaryotic selectivity and/or antiendotoxic activity of two Lys/Trp-substituted 19-meric antimicrobial peptid...

Aspiration of bovine follicles 12-36 hours after induced corpus luteum lysis serendipitously identified two populations of cows, one with High androstenedione (A4; >40 ng/ml; mean = 102) and another with Low A4 (<20 ng/ml; mean = 9) in follicular fluid. We hypothesized that the steroid excess in follicular fluid of dominant follicles in High A4 cows would result in reduced fertility through alt...

Purpose: Hypohydration and hyperhydration are significant disorders of fluid metabolism in endurance performance; however, little relevant data exist regarding multi-stage endurance activities. The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of running seven marathons in 7 consecutive days on selected anthropometric, hematological and biochemical characteristics with an emphasis on hydra...

A bstract We study 4 × modular symmetric flavor models to realize quark mass hierarchies and mixing angles without fine-tuning. Mass matrices are written in terms of forms. At fixed points τ = i∞ ω , is broken Z 3 residual symmetry. When the modulus deviated from points, forms show depending on their charges. Thus, we obtain hierarchical structures matrices. Since begin with symmetry which can ...

BACKGROUND The magnitude of the perioperative inflammatory response plays a role in surgical outcomes. However, few studies have explored the mechanisms of the resolution of inflammation in the context of surgery. Here, we described the temporal kinetics of interleukin-6, cortisol, lipoxin A4, and resolvin D in patients who underwent oncologic liver resections. METHODS All patients gave writt...

The amyloid A4 or beta peptide is a major component of extracellular amyloid deposits that are a characteristic feature of Alzheimer's disease. We synthesized a series of peptide analogs of the A4/beta peptide which are progressively longer at their carboxyl termini, including 42- and 39-residue peptides which represent the major forms of the A4/beta peptide in senile plaque and the hereditary ...

Lactate dehydrogenase A4 (LDH-A4) was purified for yak skeletal muscle. Michaelis constant (Km) analysis showed that yak LDH-A4 for pyruvate was significantly higher than that of cattle. cDNA cloning of LDH-A revealed two amino acid substitutions between yak and cattle. We suggest that the higher Km of yak LDH-A4 might be a result of molecular adaptation to a hypoxic environment.

BACKGROUND Cytoadherence of Plasmodium falciparum- infected erythrocytes to host cells is an important trait for parasite survival and has a major role in pathology of malaria disease. Infections with P. falciparum usually consist of several subpopulations of parasites with different adhesive properties. This study aimed to compare relative sizes of various binding subpopulations of different P...
