Pyemotes johnmoseri (Khaustov) (Acari: Pyemotidae) was collected from Hypoborwsficus (Erichson) and Hesperophanes griseus Fab. (Col.: Cerambycidae) in fig (Ficus cwica cv Calyrnirna) orchards in Aydm, Turkey during 2003-2004. We describe and illustrate the male and female ofP. johnmoseri as a new record for the Turkish fauna.
Diplothrombium sahragardi sp. nov. and Diplothrombium ostovani sp. nov. (Acari: Johnstonianidae) collected from soil samples (off host) in a forest near Asalem city (Iran) are described. Another species of this family Johnstoniana parva Wendt, Wohltmann, Eggers and Otto, 1994 is reported for the first time from Iran. A larva-based key to Diplothrombium is provided.
A new species of phytoseiid mite of the genus Neoseiulus (Acari, Phytoseiidae) found in Svalbard is described and illustrated. Redescriptions, drawings, measurements, and diagnosis of two related species, N. magnanalis (Thor) and N. ellesmerei (Chant & Hansell) are given. A neotype is designated for N. magnanalis.
Two new species of the genus Pediculaster Vitzthum, 1931 (Acari: Pygmephoroidea: Pygmephoridae), P. ermilovi sp. nov. and P. lignarius sp. nov. are described from rotten logs in Tyumen, Western Siberia, Russia. A key to phoretic females of Palaearctic species of the genus Pediculaster is provided.
Two new myrmecophilous species of the genus Petalomium Cross, 1965 (Acari: Pygmephoroidea: Neopygmephoridae), P. crossi sp. nov. and P. reductus sp. nov. are described from ants Myrmicaria distincta Santschi, 1925 (Hymenoptera: Formicidae: Myrmicinae) in Ethiopia. The presence and shape of the postpalpal setae in species of the genus Petalomium are discussed.
From 9 specimens of Procyon lotor collected in vicinity of Dobroszyn and Górzyca (Lubuskie province) 61 arthropods of 6 species were obtained: Siphonaptera (one specimen), Acari (3 species), Phthiraptera (one specimen--Trichodectes octomaculatus; new species to fauna of Poland) and one specimen of Psocoptera.
High incidences of red, itching, and painful welts on people in the midwestern United States led to the discovery of a European species of mite, Pyemotes herfsi (Oudemans) (Acari: Pyemotidae), preying on gall-making midge larvae on oak leaves. The mites' great reproductive potential, small size, and high capacity for dispersal by wind make them difficult to control or avoid.
We report the finding of a female brown dog tick, Rhipicephalus sanguineus (Acari: Ixodidae) on the scalp of a male patient inPorto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Human parasitism by this tick is rare and has seldomly been reported in the literature, despite its recognized importance since it can act as a vector of Rickettsia rickettsii, the agent of spotted fever.
A new species of Gaeolaelaps (Acari, Mesostigmata, Laelapidae) is described based on morphological characters of adult females collected from nest of Formica sp. (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) in the Shahrekord Region, Chaharmahal va Bakhtiari province, Iran. A key for the identification of species of Gaeolaelaps with short peritremes is presented.
Five species of myrmecophilous microdispid mites (Acari: Microdispidae) are recorded from Western Siberia, Russia. Unguidispuslasii Kurosa, 1979, Unguidispusjaponicus Kurosa, 1979, Caesarodispusminutus (Sevastianov, 1981), and Caesarodispussamsinaki (Mahunka, 1967), comb. n. are reported from Russia for the first time. Unguidispuspolyctenus (Sevastianov, 1969) and Caesarodispussamsinaki are red...
